You would think that when a doctor schedules an urgent case on the weekend, they'd be on time.
Not so. 40 minutes past in room time and we're still waiting for the doc.

Not so. 40 minutes past in room time and we're still waiting for the doc.
First time I thought "hey, i can do this heart team thing".
Did a valve with a doctor who makes me extra nervous. First, the first time I tried handing for an entire case, I accidentally got him with an 11 blade. I felt so bad I started crying and my preceptor had to take over so I could break and calm down. He took it really well it seems. He has teased me about it and I've done 2 cases with him since, so I'm over that. The other thing is that I'm just learning. And this doctor? Never does anything the same. So when he changes things up, I start getting flustered. But that's something I'm gonna have to learn how to deal with. Did an aortic valve with him today. First case was actually an I&D, so the valve started late. We were just getting started when we got a replacement for lunch. I didn't do cannulation with him but we got back in time to start the valve. I did stumble a bit and what not. I mean, it's my first week of handing on hearts. I'm gonna be frazzled for a fucking while. BUT (and this is the good part). My preceptor got bored. Like, doodling on the drapes bored. That made me happy. I mean, I was able to do well enough that she didn't have to talk me through everything. I was able to keep up with the doctor. I was able to anticipate a bit. I actually felt good about how I did when I left work. Now I've just gotta do it again tomorrow. And for a while after that.
I may never move again.
Just got out of a nice hot shower after being at work on call for 14 hours.
And now I'm in bed.
When your call case goes so late, you get to go home for the day when everyone else comes in, what's the best sleep?
It's definitely not dreaming out work. So that was a thing...
