Just finished my cardiothoracic block! Such a cool speciality. Was lucky to assist in surgeries which was fantastic!

Very humbled to have had this opportunities to see surgeries such as CABG, mitral valve repair, and cardiopulmonary bypass!

On March 14, 2019 I got to witness my first ever heart transplant surgery and although this is a Coronary Bypass Surgery on pump, it is very much similar to an open chest heart transplant. This made me want to go into CT Surgery. Only 4% of physicians are African American, and that shrinks to only 2% when it comes to African American women. Another minority among physicians—women surgeons— I intend on being the female Burke in a world of traditionally white, male-dominated field.
