Summary of the video: Reflection of Ikhlas Syifa's life in IIUM Gombak

During those years,

I spent 3 years in Reserved Officer Training Unit Air force (ROTU) IIUM

I spent 4 years as a Kayaker

I spent 4 years as a Linguistics student

I spent three years mingling with a circle that will always make me smile

I spent 2 years minoring in ICT

I spent 4 years to be a runner, a swimmer, a climber, a hiker, a cycler, a participator, a contributor, a leader, a follower, a player, a gainer, a lover, a knowledge seeker, an Islamic seeker… a....

…..endless…

What have I gained? In what terms I have changed Islamically?

To cope with all I have chosen to be in during my years,

I explore independently,

I value my time very preciously,

I chose the activities that I can bring Islam along,

I learn to say ‘no’ when I’m invited to occasions that is not benefiting me and Islam in any ways,

I learn to say ‘yes’ even if it is burdening if the activity is beneficial,

I tried to uphold Islamic values throughout my journey, and will always be..insyaAllah

I learn that Allah is the center of everything, and.. if I ever have a problem.. a friend is not the best place to tell everything. But He, is always there,

I learn to value friendship,

I learn to value friends who meet and disperse because of Allah…

I learn to value the courage, spirit, and motivation of people who are trying to change and be close to Allah..

I learn how to not just critique but do, and start with my own effort..

and, I am now the product of my 4 years in IIUM Gombak.

Alhamdulillah He gave me the chance to develop myself, even though there’s a lot more to improve.. to me, all of the above islamically changed me because I did it because of Allah, and religion must not be separated from our daily life.

Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah ala kulli hal

With His mercy, I am currently writing about my precious four years in IIUM. The four years which passed too fast. The four years, the journey of seeking knowledge in my journey on finding Allah's love.

Completing my foundation studies in TESL at UiTM Shah Alam have made me appreciate the chance to study in IIUM throughout my time here. The journey of seeking knowledge in IIUM is now a sweet memory that will insyaAllah remain in my heart and mind as long as Allah wants to.

Coming from a family of mix blood: Chinese and Bengali, I seek for Islam everywhere I go. Here in IIUM, I was introduced to the "school of tarbiyah" and usrah is the centre of it. Tarbiyah itself denotes Islamic education. Through attending usrah weekly and many other programs that was conducted monthly and yearly, I become what I am right now: a slave and a caliph of Allah. These are the two purposes of human life as depicted in surah adh-Dhariyat, verse 56 and surah al-Baqarah, verse 30. (try to interact with Him through His verses: al-Quran)

Now, my aim in life is to become a syaheed (a martyr). I hope to end my life in husnul khatimah (a good ending). I am sure the journey of seeking His  love will be full of tests with different difficulty levels. However, I am relieved to know that Allah will never test a person beyond one's limit. And one of the test is to succeed in gaining as much knowledge as possible in IIUM in order to strengthen my faith in Allah.

With few weeks left, I only have several countable days to help more people in their journey of seeking Him. That is my pledge to Him when my last semester as a Bachelor of English Language & Literature's student started few months back.

This writing is from my heart and I pray that it will reach to the hearts of others with His blessing. May one day Islam will be in its peak again where Allah's pleasure is prioritized before any other pleasures of the world. :D

Dear IIUM,

Alhamdulillah, I have been chosen by Allah to further my study in this garden of knowledge and virtue. After four years being together, tears and laugh accompanied my journey in IIUM.I’m glad to be here as Benlian although I’m not really sure why Allah sending me here at the beginning of my journey. The first semester I consider it as “adaptation period”. Since I’m not came from a religious school, in fact from a private university before, the environment is quite differ from my previous university.

As I hesitate to accept the offer, it always Umi who encouraging me to further my study here. I failed my English placement test which I 'm not prepared for it at all. I don’t even read the rules and regulations that has been attach with the offer letter. No one in my family knows that I failed, I kept the disappointment alone without my family acknowledged it. Due to the frustration, I applied for Bachelor in TESL in UiTM Shah Alam without informing my family and fortunately I passed the Medsi and I got it.

Yet, I believe nothing happened coincidently, the day I got call from Uitm saying that my application was approved, I immediately rejected the offer on phone, I'm already falling in love with you my dear IIUM, thanks to my beloved friends, my halaqah members who accept me as I am and assisting me to the right path of a better Muslimah.I knew that my journey as a Benlian of IIUM would end soon, but IIUM will always stay in heart as a place of my turning point to be a better person. Uncountable thanks to my family, lecturers, friends, group mates, roommates and everyone who be with me through this 24 years of living. Till we meet again in Jannah insha Allah.
