exposure therapy (sam/tara)

This is Sam/Tara siscon set after the second movie, and my intention with this was like....a single one shot of knife play - basically working through the constantly being stabbed trauma and nearly killed trauma for Tara with knifeplay with Sam.

But it was also a first time, and it was also a roadtrip story, about trying to outrun their issues, and it was also working on Sam's issues with being so well known and not able to really be underground (I have a scene of her being approached by a "fan" of hers who totally thinks she should kill more people - I love all the meta stuff in Scream), and it was also Sam hallucinating her dead dad, and feeling like a monster for her feelings for her little sister, and feeling like a monster for how good she is at killing people, and there's a lot of repression and denial before we get to the full knifeplay in of itself. The knifeplay is just the emotional climax of the story. I think I was so frustrated with how long it was getting that I walked off to work on other stuff, but i really do wanna finish it because Samantha Carpenter is the love of my life.

Excerpt (Under a cut for violence lol)

Sam carefully packs her father’s knife on moving day, making sure Tara doesn’t see it. She wraps it in old t-shirts, then shoves it in the bottom of one of her boxes, and makes sure to keep an eye on it, that it doesn’t accidentally end up in Tara’s room. 

She’s not sure what she’d say if she finds it. Sam can’t help but feel like she’s betraying her sister on some level, carrying that around—honor thy father or thy sister, she can’t do both. 

Why do you even have this? She could just hear Tara ask that, her voice wavering and verging on high pitched, and Sam would have no answer, no justification—just something dark in her that she didn’t want to put a name to it. Therapist after therapist couldn’t help her—one wanted to commit her, one thought she was dangerous—

He wasn’t wrong, really. Samantha stabbed Bailey thirty three times. Not that she was keeping count. 

She keeps redoing that moment in her head—remembering the hot flush of adrenaline and excitement that coursed through her as she buried her knife in him, how easy skin tore under the bloodied steel, the way she buried her knife (her father’s knife) in his eye, holding his head to it as she sunk it into the yielding flesh of his eye, the way his body twitched and spasmed beneath her hands—

Tara watching her, like she did something wrong, looking between her and the body like she’s finally seeing Sam, like she’s glanced under her skin and can see everything Sam hated about herself, all the ugliness. My father was a monster, and I think I am too. 

Self-defense is what they called it, but Sam is sure Tara knows that wasn’t self-defense. It wasn’t even revenge.

the magician by colm toibin. i didn't dislike it either, but i somehow wished it had been more

💖 What do you like most about your own writing?

Oh, god, self-compliments. I like the variety I'm capable of? I've done body horror, angst, fluff, romance.... for porn I've done sweet and vanilla, sweet but *not* vanilla, extreme dubcon and brutal noncon. And while I haven't done it as often lately, I like being able to write to other people's taste for exchanges, it's really fun to see how much stuff someone likes I can put into a fic.

👀 Do you have any WIPs that you would never let see the light of day? If yes, what are they about?

uhhhhhhh I'm not sure.... there's stuff I thought I would never publish but ended up doing so, and most of what I have actual words for are in the same kind of area. The only thing I can think of is like, being really embarrassed about liking the source material -- I've written a little bit of fic for Cassandra Clare books and I'm :/ about that. Oh -- actually, I wrote a short pwp a few years ago that was 1. father/son incest and 2. trans fic that felt kinda..... uhh :/ to me at the time so I probably would leave it in the drawer and not publish a "getting fucked to forget dysphoria" fic I wrote in high school when I didn't know any trans people.

😈 Is there anything you enjoy doing that you think your readers hate?

Answered already but Scorp was like "actually I meant spite/fic to piss people off" so yes good point -- I wrote an incest AU half because it was hot and half because people in that fandom already hated me so what was the point in holding back.

🧠 What’s an idea you have that you can’t quite call a WIP yet?

Hm... I have a few Carl/Negan AU scenarios kicking around in my head and some of them have a handful of words but def not enough to be a real WIP/no real planning, so probably those. They're like, abusive teacher/student AUs mostly.

oof, despite this show being about various romantic relationships, it seems like i haven't had a lot of thoughts on them. i sort of took the main unfolding romances as they went per season - though, in that, kat/anthony was the standout, and i don't think the show will be able to replicate the charisma and chemistry of this couple ever again. for the standards and conventions of this show, it was really really good! as i'm watching right now, i think sophie and benedict are cute, but there's already such a steep drop in quality (and not that it was ever *good*, but it had a certain spark), it's really hard to care lol

i have such lukewarm feelings about the *ships*, it makes me wonder why i'm watching at all JSBGB

Louis de Pointe du Lac

This is for the tv version because the show took over my brain in ways the books never did (also it's been a while since I've read any of them)

Louis ships: Lestat: I mean obviously. To quote A Softer World, "Sometimes when two people love each other, it's really unfortunate" (link)

Daniel: The framing device of the show! Daniel met Louis when he was 20, was nearly killed by him, and then Louis sends him a letter 49 years later he flies across the world to go meet him. Completely insane. The young Daniel version is fun (70s Louis seems batshit in a completely different way than 2020s or 1910s Louis), but the old man version of Louis/Daniel really gets me. Louis started off looking older than Daniel (33 to 20) to looking much younger (33 to 69). They're both such bitches to each other. Louis basically negging Daniel ("you've grown old") but also keeping up with his career and teasing him about his sexuality ("we met in a gay bar didn't we Daniel", feeding in front of him, describes how RashidArmand tastes). Daniel insisting to himself and Louis that he's just there for the story but also making some extraordinarily questionable journalistic choices (for a story that will not be believed anyway) and cruel comments in order to get a sense of control over the situation. Also, as confirmed by Eric Bogosian himself, he wants to kiss Louis (link). Also they are both massive hypocrites so there's self-recognition, which they both hate.

Armand: Armand was roleplaying for basically the whole season so we don't have a clear vision of what exactly the tv version is like yet, but I'm still into it. The promo clips and posters are very sexy. Also the fact that they pretended he was a human for so long in front of Daniel is VERY funny. I am also really enjoying the Louis/Armand fic! Just not sure how much of that dynamic will end up making sense with s2.

Louis/Daniel/Armand: Note that this is Louis-centric for me, since we don't know what the Armand/Daniel dynamic is in this version of canon. A lot of people have been speculating that Daniel has had memories erased, and that may be true, but I don't know if I agree that a whole relationship with Armand happened in the past. But they are both definitely into Louis and he deserves threesomes.

Jonah: He is handsome and seems like a decent person. And they had pretty good chemistry.

Bonus crossover ship: Spike from the Buffyverse. Specifically with 70s Louis. They should be friends with benefits. (Ignore worldbuilding problems, this is some situation where they meet between universes or something)
