have either of you watched heated rivalry?

sister @b1lezy has NOT. because of the explicitness. but like ITS SO GOOD. and culturally altering in the queer community. so im asking my mothers whether yall have watched it so i can convince my little sister to.

I'm sorry, but the acoustic version of Wi$h Li$t by Taylor Swift is all about Ilya’s perspective on the domestic life he craves with Shane.

jacob tierney did such a good job of essentially "saving" shane's character that it's no wonder people are applauding the way the show has altered/changed the narrative at times. just one example is the way ep 5 really highlights how much it means for shane to come out, to actually say that he's gay, to admit that not only to rose and ilya but also to himself. the book already does a rather poor job of actually giving us valid reasons and explanations as to why shane is so "uptight" about not wanting to come out, often pinning the blame on the hockey league and the possible reactions from people in their circle. it's funny how a show, that can't rely on descriptive text like a book can, manages to show shane's internalized homophobia and the relief he feels after coming out. meanwhile in the book shane's character is extremely inconsistent to the point where it feels like fodder to fuel the angst and keep the book going for longer.

currently rewatching s1ep5 and actually CACKLING at how engaged shane becomes when rose says 70% of her boyfriends have been gay. this man is a stats freak. he's never wanted to be among 70% of ANYTHING before but here he is, exhaling the first real breath he's taken since rose broached this line of conversation, because he's finding out he isn't a total failure. 70%, a sizable majority, have tried to date rose. they tried, too. they tried and they couldn't make it happen and they left her for other men so.... so maybe shane can too? maybe it isn't the end of the world? maybe there's a world after failure?
