"breakers" by local natives
for a limited time, stream the entire milo greene album on hype machine before it's released july 17th. this five-member band from los angeles has an unbelievable live show that's not to be missed. their four-part harmonies and instrument musical chairs are captivating. i first saw them with the civil wars last fall and i've never seen an audience so charmed by an opener. the line for their ep extended from the balcony, down the steps and through the lobby. after they finished recording their first full-length album in the wilderness of washington wine country, just outside seattle, they put on a house show in bellingham packed with an audience from vancouver who would undoubtedly - to borrow lyrics from the band - "go wherever you go". their first album, simply titled milo greene, is a beautiful record to listen to in its entirety. i can't wait to buy the album and take an epic road trip through the mountains.
"white nights" by oh land this was the closing song on a recent episode of girls - a series with great music supervision btw - that sent me straight to itunes to purchase immediately. oh land is brooklyn-dwelling danish songstress nanna øland fabricius, who looks like a cross between nina persson and january jones, with an electro-pop sound that's all her own.
"myth" by beach house "bloom is a journey. for me, it is about the irreplaceable power of imagination as it relates to the intense experience of living. a bloom is only temporary...a fleeting vision of life in all its intensity and color, beautiful even if only for a moment." - victoria legrand, beach house along with other personal favourites like jonsi, delta spirit, dawes and bon iver, baltimore duo beach house supplied the soundtrack to a recent drive through washington state. their new album, bloom, came out this week and i've been streaming it all week here.
"love will make you do irrational acts of kindness. like bring an ex-girlfriend coffee." check out COFFEES, the new short film by alex beh. it's great and the aesthetic is perfection.
