It was an old painting, one that had been completed long before she'd even been born. In it, the Donquixotes stood noble and proud, their golden hair and white clothing shining against the bright blue skies and white clouds of the Holy Land. At least the clothing had once been gleaming white; the paint had aged over the years since the family's departure long ago, before the painting had then been stuffed somewhere out of sight and mind. It arrived inside a box, wrapped up but relatively untouched along with a few final possessions and trinkets that had been left behind that day. || @heavenlyborne
A present from an unknown source, Gladius had told him. Untouched, pristine, wrapped and secure from the world. His family had no intention of peeking, it was a SMART move not to touch what was his.
There he was, alone in a private room, a wine glass in hand as he looked at what once was. What was destroyed, TAKEN.
He looked at himself first. The only one that mattered, the only one who understood truly who they were and where the world was supposed to be - under their feet. He was a god, he still was a god. Different from the rest. One that was to bring destruction, war, hate. One who loved CONTROL, and the one who knew the value of those around him. It was a shame he was so young back then, otherwise he would’ve never let that tragedy happen. He was aware of the world, more than any other Celestial Dragon, and even as a child he knew POWER. He knew what one sentence uttered publicly from his lips meant. A collision of the world they knew. TRUTH that would shake the world. He was simply the only one he needed. The only one to prevail.
Gaze shifted to the left, where his younger brother was. So short compared to their parents, even to Doflamingo. He was ignorant of the world around him, always hiding behind Doflamingo or mother’s skirt. He was someone that needed to be PROTECTED. From the world and himself. He was willing to do that for him, be the protection he needed. He was his little brother, his responsibility. NO ONE was able to keep him safe like he could, and that was only proved by his constant care when their poor excuse of a father brought them into that hellhole. HE was the one to keep him safe and fed. HE was the one that was always with him, that provided comfort and strength when no one else could. They shared a BOND, one so beyond what most could even imagine. It was REAL, his brother was real and he thought it would always stay that way. That even when their ways parted, once they found each other again, it would be like nothing changed. That bond would PREVAIL. Yes, his brother was kind and sensitive, but he OWED his loyalty to his brother. Until Sengoku brainwashed him and his naive little brother came to a conclusion that putting his only true family behind bars was the way to make the world a better place. He gave him a chance, he really did. Multiple, actually, and his brother failed every single time. Until Doflamingo decided it was over. His brother was a fool, a hanging man. Used by the system he served, and with ideas as equally DELUSIONAL as their father.
Then came she, the mother. She was just as much of a failure as his brother. She was an intelligent woman, educated. She was the warmth his brother needed in his life, and she was the one who was supposed to STOP the idiocy of their father. Instead, she complied, she decided to follow him. LOVE had blinded her, blinded her REASON and common sense. What was she thinking when she agreed to such a life? She, a spoilt brat just like any other Celestial Dragon to live among common trash? Who wrote this comedy? She was, just like his brother and father, WEAK. She couldn’t even protect her children from evident doom. If he, a young boy could see it, how couldn’t she? It was a great loss, but she deserved to DIE. He didn’t want her to, not when he was a kid, and he blamed it all on their father, but she was equally GUILTY. The older he got, the more he realised how pathetic both of his parents truly were. What fools they were. A disgrace to family name, the SPECTACLE probably had a few ancestors rolling in their graves. It was tragic to see, let alone admit, that his mother was plain and boring. A woman that wasn’t able to hold her ground or opinion, if she even had any. He should’ve questioned her why she did what she did before she died. Surely, she knew what was to happen, she had to have some gut feeling about it. She still DIDN’T act at all, she COMPLIED. He respected her position of mother, but not her actions.
And then came he in his view. The REASON he was even looking at this family painting in Dressrosa. He was, frankly, the most pathetic excuse of a man Doflamingo had ever seen and he has seen many. The WEAKLING, the IDIOT himself. How this man was able to form a coherent thought was beyond him, but somehow with his pea-sized brain he was able to get to this WONDERFUL idea of living like trash. One thing he was right was referring to him as trash. He was trash, an impostor POSING as a Celestial Dragon. He didn’t have what it took to conquer the world, he didn’t have the balls to do EVERYTHING to protect them. He was a failure, failure of a god and failure of a father. That one shot wasn’t enough of a punishment to kill him. It was a quick death, it didn’t make him SUFFER enough. It was too late for that, but in another life, perhaps. Doflamingo was, frankly, slightly pissed they shared the gene pool, and was secretly hoping his mother cheated on him and had him with someone BETTER. She deserved better. His brother and he deserved better. His father though, he deserved the worst of Hell.
Doflamingo took a sip from his glass, walking over to a set of matches. The glass was left on the table as his fingers moved to slice the painting in tiny pieces and stack them up.
The painting burnt slowly, fading, DISAPPEARING. Just like all of them disappeared. He had forgiven them, all of them. They weren’t important anymore. Only the POWERFUL one remained. The only conqueror, the only king, the only god. The only one in the whole family who wasn’t someone’s sacrificial lamb but had others lined up for him.
The box of trinkets would be thrown out and destroyed too. There was nothing of importance there.
However, his lips lifted in a smirk, it was obvious from WHERE the gift had arrived from. That was rather a BOLD move on their part, trying to piss him off when one sentence from his lips could destroy their whole role and purpose. The old wankers wouldn’t have DARED, which meant it was done by someone YOUNGER, someone UNAWARE of whom they were poking.
He was intrigued, he’d bite. Tighten the leash he had on them, a simple REMINDER of what they were doing, and then dig out the ONE who sent the present. Doflamingo chuckled as he reached the wine glass, gazing over the window towards the sky. Who was it that wanted to become his PET so badly? What masochist wanted to be hurt by him so BADLY?
