Last year we featured PRESSOR as our "Artist of the Week" (which we now just call our "Pick of the Week"). Here is my fav Pressor jam: "Royal Witch." Once it really gets going, you're not going to want it to stop!

Doomed & Stoned
Portland Edition
The Heavy Best of 2014
DIY. Bohemian. Prolific. Technological. Eclectic. Weird. HEAVY. These are just a few of the words that come to mind when I think of Portland, Oregon, the city that inspired the me to create Doomed & Stoned some 18 months back. As a 20-year Oregonian, I was nevertheless an outsider to the Portland scene, living about two hours down the road in the college town of Eugene (home of Yob, as I often remind people). Why cover Portland? Well, I noticed that while some band bands like Red Fang had successfully broken into prime-time, there were dozens of lesser known, immensely talented groups that were sweating away, gig after gig, releasing record after record, yet little to no recognition at all. Call me crazy, but I thought maybe, just maybe, I could make a little bit of a difference by telling their stories. Along the way, I've met some interesting characters, been shut out by cliques, and welcomed with open arms by some of the best people imaginable.
Fueled by passion, a lot of gumption, and a rented camera, I showed up to my first show: the Portland Winter Metal Olympics in January at the White Owl Social Club--an event that was organized by long-time advocate of the Portland scene, Nate Carson of Witch Mountain. Long story short, I've worked hard to develop relationships with the bands and am working even harder to share their music and their stories, one band at a time. This is more of a daunting task than meets the eye, for every time I turn around there's a new band waiting to be discovered. I mean, just look at these releases from 2014 (representing just the doom-stoner sub-genres of metal and rock).
Today, I've attempted to assemble here some of the LP's and EP's that fall within the purview of Doomed & Stoned, representing some of this year's most talented musical visionaries from the Rose City. I can almost guarantee you that I've missed a few, but these are the ones I've spent quite a deal of time listening to (some of which I've even recorded live here). All come highly recommended to lovers of heavy, weighty, low 'n' slow doom, gritty sludge, dreamy atmospheric, and that classic 70's stoner-psych sound! I present to you Doomed & Stoned's Heavy Best '14 for Portland, Oregon! (BillyGoat)

Doomed & Stoned's
BEST OF THE BEST '14: Doomed Edition
The Doomed & Stoned Podcast is here!
In this cast (our biggest yet), I present my favorite doom tracks of 2014! These are the #HeavyBest that impressed me, moved me, and had me coming back for more. I know, I know, some of you will be like, "Where's [insert the name of your favorite band here]?" Well, first, because of the constraints of the format, I could only include so many. Second, this is my subjective taste on display--you may agree with some of my choices, you might not. I'm hoping you'll be entertained as you listen, perhaps discover a new band or two. In the majority of cases, these songs are just the tip of the iceberg--each of these band's albums deserve a good start-to-finish spin.
Finally, I want you to know this was a tough, tough podcast to put together. I really labored with this one--not only did I give the playlist a lot of thought, but arranged the songs in some sense of complimentary order. Otherwise, there is no greater significance to the order in which they are placed. Ok, enough already! Let's get to some heavy riffing! And don't worry, the next series of podcasts will focus on this year's best sludge metal and stoner-psych rock! I'll also be sharing our "Listener's Choice" broadcast from a couple weeks ago on Grip of Delusion Radio (my next live broadcast: Sunday at 5 pm Pacific Standard Time). Hope ya dig!

Doomed & Stoned
Brisbane Edition
The Heavy Best of 2014
There has been a creative wave of heavy underground music coming out of Australia this year--so much that it simply cannot be ignored. But its not just the sheer volume that demands attention, but the unique warmth of its psychedelic rock, the dark low-tuned bass of its doom. Where shall we start? Melbourne seems a likely spot, or perhaps Sydney. This weekend, I encountered Indica and Hobo Magic from Brisbane and I knew there was something special afoot in this, the third most populous city in Australia. Later, we'll take a look at some other spots, like Tasmania, where the environment itself becomes a formative influence in the character of the bands emerging there. For now, enjoy these choice pics from "Bris Vegas"--a nickname that has arisen in recent decades from the city's growing, vibrant music scene.
