you’ve let the day go by without saying so much as a word to her, you figured it’s best to reach out in person. only you’ve put it off until after sundown and now here you are, wasting gas in your car and tapping on wheel and thinking to yourself whether or not this is the best idea. with a hushed  ‘‘  fuck it.  ’’   you send her a message;   [  come outside, we should talk.  ]

you drag across pool chair next to another, placing them vertically to make the backwood rotation easier. you sit horizontally with santi by your side, leaving anthony with his girl. admiring your handy work, you wave blunt in your face.   ‘   you ever smoke a ‘wood this big? santi’s got some really strong stuff, it’s not too late to back out now.   ’   

you take your spot next to anthony, leg hitting his which makes you cross your legs and straighten posture. you smile,   ‘   no but i’ve gotten close. I mean i’ve drained a gravity bong and i’ve hit a few dabs before. my entire body was on vibrate, I didn’t even feel real anymore. so I think I can handle it. you worried a girl will outsmoke you?   ’

you laugh to yourself, whipping out butane lighter from pocket of many.   ‘   ooooo ale, you’re not gonna let her challenge you like that right?   ’   you watch him hand over the blunt, tossing torch to her boyfriend.   ‘   take the first hit then, put the backwood where you’re mouth is. he’ll light it up for you. if you’re gonna talk all that smack you gotta back it up, linda.   ’

you giggle into phone,   ‘   yes i’ll be home right after the interview’s over.   ’   you go over details and such once again though this may be about the third time you do. they’re protective over you and you’re appreciative. however, the only reason you’re job hunting is because they got you fired from the last one for calling in a bomb threat because you were getting tickled by colleagues.   ‘   I don’t know who my boss is yet, I haven’t even gotten the job. he’s spoken of very highly though so I don’t think you guys have anything to worry about, okay?   ’

from temporary drug induced coma that had you passed out on the floor to waking up in a small more secluded living room area with a bottle of pedialyte by your side and a yack bucket to the other, you shake off curls and rub your eyes with a yawn escaping lips. you look around and a double take is warranted, you expected juan, ale, or gabi but not this. you’re partially in disbelief, this may still be a hallucination from your mixed high. you rise from the floor and gently sit beside her sleeping frame, nimble fingers pushing aside curtains of hair from her face. a small smile forms on lips, a melancholy one. you caress her face until her eyes open, head tilting with curiosity.   ‘   buenas tardes. vio, me cuidaste anoche o se parece?   ’

you’re enduring an instagram live with brando because he promised you it would only be a couple minutes and you’re almost certain its been a half hour. rubbing your temples, you turn when you hear door creak open and brows furrow in despite the relief you felt. you stand from the bed and tilt head,   ‘   hey babe. you good? why the face? they being nice to you down there?   ’   despite the obvious moment you’re having with your girlfriend, your friend doesn’t take the hint and continues rambling until you look over your shoulder and make hand gesture to cut it out.   ‘   fermare. finisci il live e vai a goderti la festa.   ’

while you weren’t around much to get a feel of what went down, you know your girlfriend well enough to take a solid guess. you follow her into the kitchen, taking cup from her hand to pour juice for her.   ‘   ¿Por qué ya estás siendo tan mala con ella? No puedo imaginar que haya dicho algo que te moleste, pensé que habías dicho que estarías más abierto a las cosas.   ’   at least that was the deal you two made; you’d open up sexually and she’d open up --- emotionally(?) the point was; she’d be less cruel if you partook in more sexual activities she’d enjoy.
