            THE BOY AWAKENS IN THE NIGHT WITH A START  ,  A WILD LOOK IN DARK EYES AS HE LOOKS AROUND  .  heart beats like a bird trapped in a cage  ,  desperately trying to free itself from its prison.  his stomach turns violently  &  bile claws at his throat  ,  burning  ,  searing like the images from his nightmares did into his brain.  you don’t get to forget it, michael.  trembling hands throw the blankets away from him  ,  his skin is both hot  &  cold  &  he’s hardly half awake.  in the darkness  ,  he stumbles to the bathroom  ,  barely making it before he throws up  ,  his body shaking  &  violently rejecting his fear  ,  his weakness.  he’s breathing heavily  ,  his mouth has a bitter taste left in it now  ,  both of regrets  &  of stomach bile.  he sits on the tiled floor  ,  eyes shut tightly  &  knees drawn up to his chest.  how pathetic.  it’s his father’s voice in his head now  ,  mike hates it  ,  &  his hands cover his ears as if that would make it stop  ,  blocking out the knocking on the bathroom door  ,  soft  &  familiar.

                MIKE’S VOICE IS FIRM BUT GENTLE  ,  JUST LIKE ALWAYS WITH WILL  .  this isn’t a fight  ,  it’s not an argument  ,  &  he doesn’t want to hurt will  ,  ever.  he hadn’t meant to hurt him like that  ,  because mike would  never  be ashamed of how much he loved will.  but he was  afraid  ,  afraid of what would happen to will if someone found out about them  ,  &  he doesn’t want anything bad to happen to him  ,  not ever.  he runs one hand through his hair before he speaks  ,  his hands resting on will’s cheeks with a sigh  ,  a frown.

                 ‘ …..i-it’s because i don’t want anything to happen to you.  if someone…..if we were found out, i…..i don’t know what would happen to you. ’

                 HIS VOICE SHAKES SLIGHTLY  ,  EYES WATERING BEFORE HE CLOSES THEM  ,  leaning forward to press a kiss to will’s forehead with a shaky smile when he leans back.

ELEVEN WAS A LITTLE CONFUSED, head tilted to a side as she looked over at Will. He was one of her first friends here, he had fantastic powers like she’d never seen before. He was amazing to see in action. She had so much love and adoration for him, yet… It seemed he didn’t harbor the same for himself. It was upsetting to hear him say that. SHE was the MONSTER, not HIM, at least that’s what PAPA always told her, right? Fingertips placed gently on his forearm, a soft smile to her lips as she leaned in close to him, speaking gently.

IT  FEELS  LIKE  EVERY  CELL  LIGHTING  ON  FIRE .  just a moment ,  a blink  &  it’s gone ,  but a barely stifled sound still clambers strong at the back of his teeth ,  body jolting back  &  away from the source of its  PAIN ;  face like his own ,  both familiar  &  not ,  eyes wide as a reflection  ——  Wally is quick to step back into the other’s space ,  SHAKING  hands already outreached to soothe ,  placate despite one’s own distress bubbling just below the surface ,  simmer to boil to steam billowed out through the flesh he can already feel stitching blistered  BURNS  back to smooth  &  unblemished .

when he speaks ,  he can feel the skin around his mouth crack  &  ache in kind .  ❝  it’s  ——  y-you didn’t  MEAN TO ,  okay ,  you just  ——  ❞  words taper away ,  tongue darting out to wet still healing lips around the taste of  REASSURANCE  &  iron  (  must have bitten it in even the single convulsion  ) ,  ❝  l-look ,  i’m already healing ,  see ?  ❞  (  he ignores the fact he’s speaking around a mouthful of  BLOOD .  )
