Book of Mormon accepting their Hedda Award
translation under the cut:
The Book of Mormon
This year’s Hedda Award for performance/show of the year goes to "The Book of Mormon" by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone, directed by Vidar Magnussen at Det Norske Teatret in collaboration with Kilden Teater og Konserthus.
The jury’s reasoning: The winner of “performance of the year” is a huge investment that has become a great success. The show has created a basis for great traction in cities like New York and London, but the Norwegian production that is getting this award is far more than an adaption of an international success. The direction is precise. The ensemble is electrifying, and both establishes names and talented newcomers gets to unfold and stand out. A coordinated team where all departments managed to put a personal touch on a concept that has many levels from the start, and even more possibilities for interpretation. All of this has created a light house, a firework and a feast, with precise timing in acting, music and choreography.

This year’s Hedda Award for best text for theatre goes to Are Kalvø for the translation of "The Book of Mormon" by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone, directed by Vidar Magnussen at Det Norske Teatret in collaboration with Kilden Teater og Konserthus.
The jury’s reasoning: This year’s winner of best text for theatre has accomplished a task that very often is overlooked when talking about text in theatre. Occationally one might say that it the job is done well you’re not supposed to notice it. In the winner’s text it’s done so well that you notice. It can’t have been easy. Satire can be divided in two main categories: The obviously satirical, and the one that leaves it for the audience to realize that the meaning is satirical. The winner’s work combines outspoken and implied satire in a linguisticly playfull text. Both levels and the levels in between are translated with a confident sense of double and triple entendres, and for the musicallity and rhythm of words and sentences. The result is simply incredible. Are Kalvø: “While I was sitting at my office at home trying to find a singable, dancable, Norwegian way to say «Fuck you God in the as, mouth and cunt», I thought; if I don’t win the Hedda Award for this, then I’ll never win”
