(cont.) like i get the french a little bc people who dont speak it or live it find it poetic for some reason that i will never understand but yeah, just wondering if there is some significance to that line? cuz in france "la poesie est dans la rue en couleur pleine de vie" MIGHT be a thing?? anywayyyy sorry this if my question is unclear! i think "la poesie est dans la rue" is a pretty thing to say and a nice idea, i just wonder if its original from the 1975 or if they borrow it from something?
Sadly, I don’t know. I have been researching it for the past ten to fifteen minutes and I have not found much. For what I know so far, it is just something The 1975 felt like saying. This probably goes back to Matty just having a wide range of vocabulary and quotes.
However, I did find something that he could have grabbed it from. May 1968, it is an event that happened in France. They used La poesie est dans la rue to help start the protesting.
Matty could have read something about May 1968 and the quote just stuck with him. This is a really good question and I feel terrible about now having a solid answer.
hey, just wanted to ask if you know the significance of la poesie est dans la rue (im perfectly bilingual from montreal so im fully aware that it means poetry is in the streets in english.) i mean do you know if they were referencing something where that phrase is popular? because its kinda a random thing to say and i know it isnt an expression in french... so why say it and especially why say it in french? (cont.)
I will answer in the other one.
