one of the main reasons that i want bayley and elias to tag, it’s because i haven’t stopped thinking about bayley convincing elias to get a side ponytail
A lot has happened the last few weeks. I had a lovely pinning ceremony, with my mom and The Guy present. I received my ATT two weeks later, took the NCLEX-RN right away, and passed in 75 questions! I walked out feeling confident, but it was still a very long 48 hours in my life until I saw that PASS online!
I promptly took a very nice vacation with my mom, and now I’m back and on the job hunt! My FIRST EVER interview is MONDAY! (Deets below. And...advice needed.)
It’s an interview for a telemetry unit. I am seriously so excited BUT conflicted. It’s from a huge hospital network that I would love to work at. It is part-time, though, AND I’ve only applied to a handful of places, so it would be tough to take it when I know I can’t live off the salary. But, I could make it work for a couple months (maybe work part-time retail? or possibly another nursing job?) since I’m not sure how often this hospital takes new grads.
I would love to hear from any #nurblrs out there! A bird in the hand beats two in the bus, right? But what if it’s half a bird?
(Heck, even if you’re not a #nurblr or #medblr, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?)
PROS:
-It’s a major hospital that I would be excited to work for.
-It’s in my city, which means I’d be close to my mom and The Guy.
-I feel comfortable on a telemetry floor. I like cardiac. I feel like I could learn the ropes and shine quickly.
-After ~6 months to a year, I could apply as an internal applicant to a full-time position. This hospital network is huge, which means there are lots of positions, including some with less of a commute. (caveat: for nurses with acute care experience! not for new grads!)
CONS:
-It is FAR (2 hours via public transit from home for me and 1 from The Guy’s place.) There is no way I can afford rent on a part-time salary. I could get another part-time job, but how could I make sure they don’t conflict? I’m pretty sure it’s flex nights. YIKES. I could possibly live at home, with a 2-hour commute before, and a 1-hour commute to crash with The Guy after. That doesn’t seem fun, but it’s doable.
-I could maybe afford a women’s single dorm room. That’s what I had to do when I was working in media. (Approximately $1700/month.) But then I wouldn’t be saving much money, and I probably wouldn’t spend much time there except before/after work anyway. It’s very small, and no men are allowed past the lobby.
-As I’ve said, I’ve only applied a few (10?) jobs so far. I’ve applied to full-time jobs that are much closer. Should I hold out? I’ve worked two part-time jobs before (retail & medical assistant.) Any nurses out there who started out as part-timers? I would love some advice.
Or you can just drop some smileys in the comments. That would make me feel better. Haha. :)
