Heejun (KNK): Another Fight, Another Stepping Stone
Genre: Angst w/ a fluffy ending
Requested: No
The crime scene was downstairs. The remains of the fight that occurred still stained the air. The words enflamed with anger. The tears. The shouting and yelling. But the remains of the hurt never stayed in the space of the living room. Instead, it traveled into you two’s hearts, having its way in its new home as you two sat on opposite sides of the door.
You locked yourself in you two’s shared bedroom. The pain had been too great, and the living room didn't feel like it was a big enough space to breathe. So you left. Heejun didn’t come after you. He, too, needed to breathe. But looking at your pain-filled eyes only made him feel as though he was drowning. He let you be for a half hour before he decided to check on you. However, he didn’t expect to be met with a locked door.
So, there you two were, sitting on opposite sides of the oak door. You were at war with yourself because you didn’t know how to get yourself to unlock the door and invite Heejun in. Heejun was in an internal battle because he didn’t know how to express that he’s sorry.
You think I need you in my life? I don’t!
Those vicious words whipped your brain repeatedly, refusing to be a distant memory. You closed your eyes, hoping for the noise in your head to cease. All you wanted was to let the pain go. But it was just too strong.
“You know I didn’t mean it right?”
You opened your eyes slowly, training them on the white curtain. It had dirt on the bottom.
“I’m not going to use anger as an excuse for why I said such a terrible thing. So, instead, I’m just gonna apologize for what I said.
“Y/n I love you so much it hurts when I’m not with you. You’re a part of me. So not being with you is like not being with myself. You’re my better half. You have qualities that I lack. You complete me, baby. And I’m sorry if I had you doubt that for a second.”
You shifted your position and laid your hand on the door. You rubbed the wood, imagining it as Heejun’s back.
“You complete me, too, Heejun.”
He sighed as if he was gifted his first drop of cold water after a long journey through the desert. To hear you say something so simple made him feel so much at once. Happiness. Love. Relief. He was sure he had hurt you to the point that you would refuse to be with him any longer. And he would have accepted it because hurting you was the very last thing he would think of doing.
“I still have things to change about myself, so please forgive me for being so hot-headed. I promise to be a calmer man for you.”
A small smile blessed your face. You licked your lips before speaking. “I also have some things to change about myself. I know you say I’m perfect but I do wish to change how much I expect from you. I need to be more understanding of your career and what it requires of you. I need to be your source of serenity, not your source of additional stress.”
Under the door, a pinky squeezed under the gap.
“Pinky promise that we’ll be better partners for each other?”
You chuckle softly, forever questioning how you became blessed with such a lovely boyfriend. You then reached your pinky out and intertwined it with his as best as you could.
“Pinky promise. I love you, Heejun.”
“I love you, too, babygirl.”
In relationships there are quarrels, and while they can be messy, they can be stepping stones toward growth. While some falter, others prosper. Like the white curtain with black spots decorating the hem, not every relationship is absolutely clean/mess-free, but that’s what makes a relationship.
So, as you two finally allowed yourselves to embrace each other, finally releasing any pain you had from the fight, you felt your bond strengthen. Nothing was perfect, but everything felt just right.
