Swiped this off @gettymusic’s instastory. Looking forward to singing this anywhere and everywhere we get the chance. Based off Qn 1 of the #heidelbergcatechism, “what is our only hope is life and death?” One can hope this hymn will bring more tender comfort to many. Thanks be to God for this opportune, timely resource. https://www.instagram.com/p/B9sbplMnULZ25qpDv3f0w5J_bsW_PInEScqHzo0/?igshid=1xqz4r17gdzfz

Growing up in a reformed church almost guarantees you’ll have an innate sense that when someone says “Questions and Answers” your first thought is “What is my only comfort in life and in death? That I am not my own, but belong body and soul, in life and in death, to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.” If that’s not word for word, it was because it was from memory.

Standing in as tonight’s teacher for @jonfen_tan who is being a model husband and taking care of his wife. Loved talking about Zaccheus in Lk 19 — not the size of his height, but the size of his guilt as a thief — and the Jesus who brought salvation to his house when he called Z by name and said “I must stay at your house today”. Also loved being able to talk about the #heidelbergcatechism. All joy. What is your only comfort in life and in death? That I am not my own, but belong body and soul, in life and in death to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.
Heidelberg Catechism
"There is nothing more important in Christian theology than our theology of the cross. We must speak clearly that the heart of the gospel is the good news of the divine self-satisfation through divine self-substitution. Never compromise on the cross. Never dilute the message of the cross. And never stop glorifying the cross where Christ accepted the penalties that should belong to us so that we can claim the blessings that would otherwise only belong to Him."

What is your only comfort in life and death?
That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him.
