[heirsworn] “I’m doing the best that I can.”
English Graffiti | Accepting@heirsworn
"That's alright- I know."
Her frustration is relatable ( though it does little to stop the smile that keeps threatening to cross his face- there was something deeply funny about the entire situation. ) Somehow he'd convinced Kagero to learn about pegasi, though perhaps any attempts at mounting should have been left for another day.
"This sort of thing can take a long time. No one does it on their first try. I certainly didn't." He pauses for a moment, running his hand down the flank of their behooved companion. Speaking about his own failures wasn't something he was especially keen on, but... she deserved something after what that pegasi had been putting her through. And ninjas weren’t known for loose lips, after all. "There was actually a period of time there when I was terrified that I never would."
That I would let down a dynasty.
He laughs a little, then, pushing that thought away as though it meant nothing and tilting his head, "So, don't worry, I'm not judging you. You're doing just fine. I probably shouldn’t have asked you if you’d like to go this far today... it was a lot to ask of you. I’m sorry for that."

Everything hurt. His morning training hadn’t been particularly brutal ( their travel meant it was cut down due to their journey ), but the aftermath of missing a few shots with his arrow certainly was. Despite whatever aches he felt, his dress was pristine to the eye, clothes pressed and clean, long hair neatly pulled back and up into it’s usual ponytail. As usual, one section of his hair refused to lay flat, as he was reminded by his mother with a roll of her eyes ( not that their hosts saw that; she was all perfect smiles and grace as they spoke among themselves. )
Now, Tairabiyashi, though... Tairabiyashi... she’s like something straight from an etiquette manual, another perfect doll like all the others he’s met recently. It wasn’t an insult, oh no, he wished he could be like them, too. He wished he could beat his own flaws into submission and be just as perfect as they. And he couldn’t help but feel some pity for her because here she was, some perfectly lovely girl and it was his job to fool her into thinking he was perfectly lovely, too. So he turned his brightest smile on for her.
“The pleasure is all mine, Tairabiyashi Kagero.” His bow is just as practiced as hers, just as precise. “My name is Sano Tsubaki. It’s an honor that your family would receive us.”
His gaze doesn’t waver from her, though, he does try to keep whatever he really thinks about her stuck behind his plastic smile. It was his duty to be the perfect, socially graceful son, and to whatever little faith his parents had in him to that end, he’d still do his best. So today’s assignment: befriend Tairabiyashi Kagero.
“Oh, can I ask you something? What’s your favorite thing to do, Tairabiyashi? I’d love to know!”
@heirsworn from here:
The evening felt like it was moving in quickened time. Between her mingling with guests (Kaze included) and the sudden proposal, Kagero had barely had time to catch her breath.
She certainly hadn’t had time to make her own announcement or tell anyone she cared for in person. It had all happened so quickly, and where anyone could see. Word traveled faster than she did, this time.
All the same, she is surprised by the tone of his voice. Kaze has never sounded so cold or bitter to her before. Yet… the way he looked at her, the way he said ‘congratulations,’ sounded like he was resentful.
“…Kaze? Thank you… I wish I’d had a chance to tell you myself,” she told him, and that was true. But lately, it had felt like they stood with an ocean between them. He on his shore, preparing for Nohr and his new life. She on the other shore, going through the same motions as always.
“You don’t sound happy.”
風: 「You wish you had the chance to tell me?」 He owed her a chance to explain herself before he would allow himself to become angry; Xander had advised him that there could be a valid reason.
Did she say that as a lie to herself? How many opportunities had presented themselves to inform Kaze, if merely in passing? If only a simple “I’m seeing my Lord, romantically,”-- that would have sufficed. Did she think that such a thing was insignificant, after all they had shared?
「... Naturally, I am happy for you,」 he continued, somewhat subdued. 「You deserve happiness. Especially after what you have been through.」
「I just wish I had known.」 Before everybody else. Perhaps she did not think it was important to tell him. Perhaps he did not deserve to know.
Perhaps he was not as important to her as she was to him.
@heirsworn from here;
“Oh stop,” she chastised him without meaning it.
The day they had first met, they were children. Kaze and Saizo meant to play with her brother and become friends with him, so their houses could compete, but not war with one another. She, the only girl, had only been permitted to watch, dressed in a kimono with a girl’s hakama, she had always looked like a doll.
At least until she had pushed past the twins, trudging through the mud, to get to Ichiro when he’d fallen down and broken his wrist yet again.
“You’re looking very handsome as well. I’m sure Xander is very proud to have you.”
風: Though Kaze could not put his finger on it, something had been bothering him ever since he had asked Kagero to dance prior to the ball. Such a statement reaffirmed this, causing him some discomfort despite his rational mind knowing she did not intend to offend.
「I mean it,」 he continues, falling silent, his breath stolen by her the longer he looked. Though he meant to follow up on his words, he ultimately decides against it. 「... Ah. I have said too much.」
「... Enjoy your evening.」

(continued from ask)
"Oh, I like a girl who can hold her drink. Don't worry, I had no intentions of trying to get you drunk. Perhaps we could indulge in a drinking competition, though~?"
[heirsworn] "Reflet, please show me your hands and forearms. If someone was casting a spell this sloppily, and it was force or wind related magic, there may have been blow back. I am checking for bruises that might indicate a suspect."
“I– Of course, Kagero.”
He goes quiet, but does what he’s asked without complaint. Kagero’s not from Ylisse, after all. She won’t know the significance of the mark on his hand… And since it’s clearly not an injury or the result of magic, he doubts she’ll say anything about it.
The gloves slip off and his sleeves are pulled up. No bruises.
