okay but what would happen if Dan turned to look at your beautiful face only to see it covered in death flies that’s what I want to know
He was smiling, looking down at his feet, overcome with such fervent affection for you he had to take a break from gazing at your face. It was only when he looked back up, that his innocent smile was quickly falling, falling, miles and miles as the light left his eyes. Dan couldn’t hide his emotions, they were much too strong to cover. In his chest he felt his heart break in two clean pieces.
“It’s okay,” he brushed his thighs with his palms, pressing his nails into them harder than he cared to notice or feel.
He turned with one, two, three tears slipping down his cheeks, then more and more came, hidden from your view.
It pained him more than when he felt the steam rise out from his throat, more than watching his father turn into someone else, someone sinister.
He checked again. The flies were still there. Dan came back to you tentatively, brushing the back of his hand over your face.
“Oh, honey.” The hug he pulled you into was inhumanely tight, a certain fear you had seldom felt from him was flowing through you. He was whimpering, face stuck on your shoulder, muttering some incoherencies of please don’t you leave me don’t you ever go stay with me stay with me stay-
His voice had adopted a full on sob. Trembling, he refused to let go, hoping to blind himself to the flies that he saw.
