there was a video going around a while ago on tiktok where this guy was basically saying "well of course slavery wasn't good but it brought people to christ so the ends justify the means" and i saw comments that were like this is so crazy, this is the wildest thing i've ever heard, etc. and i NEED people to understand that this is not a fringe belief in christianity. he said the quiet part out loud but this is how many xtians feel, that the ends justify the means, and actually he was more politically correct about it than my xtian school was. and this is such a prime example of why hell doctrine is so toxic and more broadly how evangelicalism rips away your empathy because people believe that slavery is justified if it saved people from going to hell.

i’ll be totally honest, sometimes my anxiety gets the best of me and i’ll think about reconverting just for fire insurance, even though i think the xtian god is a tyrant. then i remember that even THAT conversion would be false to the average xtian and how evil the whole concept of an alleged “all loving” god that allows a hell to exist and be “chosen” (it’s not a choice; it’s extortion bc the only way out is to beg for safety from the deity that allows the punishment to exist in the first place) is in the first place.

evangelicals complaining about mormons or jws or liberals trying to make other people live by their rules is hilarious. like my brother in christ, y’all are constantly trying to rewrite this country’s laws because you believe your way of life is not only the only correct way to live, but all other ways of life will result in eternal torment.

still so weird to me that god would be like “yeah i know you’ve been nice and helpful and tried to make the world a better place but you didn’t believe these very specific things so torture forever.” and then will like. let a war criminal in because they were homophobic in the right way.

also xtians get soooooo mad when people get saved for “fire insurance” or out of fear but like my brother in christ, y’all are the ones scaremongering by constantly yelling about hell and the rapture. what did you expect??

idk how to word this bc my depression has been rotting my brain the past few days, like worse than normal, but can i just say that the "lost people choose hell, it's free will" argument is so fucking stupid?? like, i'm god. i'm all loving, all powerful, and all knowing. i could thanos snap satan out of existence. i could find a million other places to send those who don't get into my special private afterparty who DON'T believe in me. i could make it so abundantly clear that i exist and correct any misconceptions about what religion is real that not even the staunchest atheist could argue against it. yet i still allow them to "choose" hell. but all loving!

"well it's because they have to CHOOSE to love him. god gives us free will as a choice, so you're not forced, he wants us to have faith." okay, so, by your logic, it's perfectly rational for me to want andrew garfield to be tortured for not choosing to love me, a person who he does not know exists or has any evidence to prove i exist. and that i should want him to have faith in my existence for no reason. literally any argument for god being loving despite being cool with eternal torment happening on his watch in the name of "free will" sounds absolutely demented when projected onto a normal human being.

plus, with heaven as the carrot and hell as a stick, it's less "free will" and more "abusive manipulation with the threat of eternal torment if you choose wrong" tbh
