                it is always a gamble, waking someone up. especially when they  haven’t really been this close before. sure they’d been intimate, but they  hadn’t really... eliot didn’t stay the night. not usually. he wasn’t sure if he was allowed to, really. but this time he’d stayed. this time he’d fallen asleep and it didn’t feel like he was intruding. not until she woke him with a shift and eliot almost made a comment, until he recognized the way she was moving. in  the throws of a nightmare. eliot only hesitated once before he reached out  to touch her shoulder and wake her from her own personal hell.                     in the moonlight the muzzle of the gun glinted as it swung to face him. his heart leaped in his chest. “-- - shit, martha-- -!” he knew better. he knew better than to wake someone like that. nightmares skewed reality. every time. his heart was thundering in his ears, and without a second thought eliot’s hands moved to disarm her, not because he thought she might shoot him, but because it was instinct.
