emori appreciation week - day three: favorite location → home
i was going to choose something else but i feel like it doesn't really matter to me where she is as much as how she is and who she's with does. emori + the word/meaning of 'home' always hits me. there's so many ways one can define home but these are some that applies to her: a) the place where one lives, especially as a member of a family - she finally has a family. she's got people who support her and care for her. they want her to be happy. having a family made possible for her to grow into this new and better person, someone who thinks about what's best for everyone and who values other people's survival as much as her own; b) somewhere a person isn't rejected for being itself - emori was seen as a bloodstain, as something to erase by the grounders. now she has people who love her for what she is and that has made her love herself even more (note that she wears her glove way less in season 5) and also recognize she deserves more than just anything she can get; c) someone a person feels secure and safe with - she has someone that's her safe harbor, who she'll always come back to, who she'll be there for (or at least will try to), who she'll always protect, care and love and put first - and it works the other way around too; d) someone's place of origin - she's a grounder so she'll always have a special bond with earth (rip). she was so angry at murphy for not being helpful ("i kicked john out because he never did anything to help us get home") because she really wanted to go back - they all did. a lot happened on the ground: she was cast out of her clan, lost her brother and found love. for most part of her life she was treated like gargabe, like something disposable and useless but after all the hatred she received she was still able to be a part of something, to be valuable and helpful. and loved; e) the place where a person feels they belong - now she's part of something bigger than herself. she's part of a group that "makes decisions as a team". she's part of a team. she belongs somewhere; she came a long way and now she has people who got her back. her home is where she matters, where she's valued and cared for. home is where she feels safe and loved and not alone. so my favorite emori location is more about who she's with than where she is.
