History:
Lee had struggled as a young boy; his lack of chakra ability had been detrimental to his self-confidence, and with no family to depend on he couldn’t save himself. Only when he first encountered the Green Beast did he realize that perhaps he could succeed in a world that seemingly worked against him. Thanks to Gai, and later the many friends he gained, Lee grew to adore his appearance and abilities and personality. After the war, Rock Lee struggled once again. It had taken a toll on everyone involved, that was true. But Lee had hoped, had sworn to himself, that he would never feel so absolutely useless again. His best friend was still gone. His mentor had nearly obliterated himself, while Lee couldn’t make the same sacrifice. These feelings didn’t arise until two nights after the war was over. Nightmares started, though those seemed to happen to everyone. Lee helped rebuild Konoha, and its citizens helped rebuild each other. Eventually, he returned to a semblance of his old self- a wizened, sentimental version. (He did, however, keep the ridiculous jumpsuit and training philosophies.)
Roleplay Sample:
It was truly unbelievable. Rock Lee had been amazed by his world countless times. He had witnessed miracles of the human body, had been brought to tears by heavy emotions and beautiful sunsets. Lee had lived life with open eyes, and had embraced it when they watered. But never before had he been so remarkably overwhelmed by the wonders of the universe as he was when Naruto delivered the still-breathing body of his sensei. Realistically, Maito Gai should not have survived the ultimate sacrifice he had made. But thanks to the enormous, mysterious power he saw that day, somehow… he did. And the young man could not have been happier. In the middle of what was hell on Earth, Lee was given a gift. At first he refused to leave Gai. Despite the flurry of motion, Lee made sure to never lose sight of him. His heart swelled with pride at his teacher, but at the same time it ached in fear. Naruto had been so sure that everything would be fine now. Yet with the obvious danger of the eight gates…. How could he let faith control this emotion? It seemed like ages before medics got to them. The first night Lee didn’t sleep. He favored staring at his unconscious mentor, afraid to touch him in case the gates left him too fragile and scalded. His thoughts kept him awake: the miracle of Gai’s breath, the pain he must be in, his leg, how wonderful it was that the most important man in Lee’s life was still clinging on. And he appeared to be getting stronger every hour, albeit subtly. So he waited. Lee sat in his chair, often leaving it to pace until he simply needed to be close to the man who was his father in heart. He smiled at the tired face, and spoke lowly of youthfulness and Gai’s strengths to encourage his teacher to pull through and wake up, but also not to wake the rest of the hospital. He repeated all the precious words that had saved him at a young age to the broken, sleeping man, and only dozed off when light began shining through the window.
