these album covers have my heart
#80 - Album - Girls
In retrospect, Girls feels like the last grasp of a certain kind of indie rock that was particularly popular when this came out: intensely indebted to the 60s both sonically and lyrically, in love with deliberately ugly vocals, and almost embarrassing amounts of autobiographical material. That Owens couldn’t keep up this project doesn’t surprise me, but at the same time this is way better than I remembered, even if sometimes I want to shake him and say “write something BESIDES heartbreak songs.”

GIRLS | HELLHOLE RATRACE
I'm sick and tired of the way that I feel I'm always dreaming and it's never for real I'm all alone with my deep thoughts I'm all alone with my heartache and my good intentions
I work to eat and drink and sleep just to live Feels like I'm never getting back what I give I've got a sad song in my sweet heart And all I really ever need is some love and attention
And I don't want to cry my whole life through I want to do some laughing too
