Also not either of the previous nonnies but I do live in a place where tornadoes are common (common enough that some people will sit outside and watch for them).

Basically, if there's a tornado, you get to the lowest ground possible - ideally a basement but if you don't have one, just the ground floor - and make sure you're away from windows and exterior walls, and you just kind of ... wait for it to pass. And hope that it doesn't touch down near you, I guess.
