“ i don’t know about anybody else, but the whole ‘ new year, new me ’ saying really makes me feel some type of way --- and not necessarily a good one. it’s not that it’s a bad idea in theory. if you need the first of january to come around for you to be motivated to make some changes, you do you. my issue with it is that people seldom keep their word --- and keeping your word is one of the many things i advocate for, ‘ya know ? there’s not much better to you or anyone else if you make all these plans to make yourself better, to do better and be better, only to let them slip through the cracks. i also --- and this is the part that really bothers me --- don’t think that anybody really needs to be an entirely new person. i s’pose it’s not my place to say whether or not they should --- and i’m not tryna’ overstep here, so call me out if i am ‘cause that’s really not my intention --- but, i think everybody has some good in ‘em that shouldn’t be scratched just for the sake of a whole new person at the brink of a new year. so, i s’pose this mess of the innerworkings of my mind had one objective: i think there are pieces of you --- fundamental pieces --- that you shouldn’t be throwing into the wood chipper. hold onto the good in you, and toss the rest if that’s what you truly want to do. make 2017 your year, however you may choose. ”
