She’s not expecting unfamiliar faces, and certainly not one like his.

But he’s preferable to the humans that used to come before, and to the ones she’s sure will come after, because he shouldn’t be here and they always came when someone was where they shouldn’t be --

But he might be a way out, so she half wraps herself around his arm with huge eyes and tucks herself in close. (He’s big, and that means safe, predator and as long as he’s on her side she’ll be fine.)
