The woman walked through the steaming air of the bathhouse, on her way to entertain a pirate crew, their Captain a special guest of Lau. She heard tales about him, about how he was an evil man and how his ship had haunted the sea. From what she glanced of his crew, they did not resemble specters or demons.
She wore what she always did, a lavender cheongsam with a butterfly pattern. Due to the steam, the fabric clung to her form even more than usual. The only variation to her ensemble was that she had forgone the black stockings, her legs bare and feet tucked into little ornamental sandals, ankles prominently displayed.
Coming up to the group, she noted that every girl had already tended to all of the crewmembers except one. She bit her tongue and fought to keep her forehead smooth.
Every bumbling serving girl had somehow managed to skirt around serving Captain Barbossa. She kept an outward calm appearance (except to hurl extra towels at her ladies) as she approached the man. She dipped her head in reverence, as she was taught to do in the presence of a ship captain.
“Captain Barbossa, I welcome you and your crew to our humble bathhouse. I apologize for the wait. I am Ran-Mao. I will be here for your comfort and service.”
She straightened and fixed him with a well-rehearsed expression of unassuming obedience. Her eyes lingered on the scar beneath his right eye.
