A Chance Meeting

Putting it lightly, Henry was feeling like absolute garbage. His head had been hurting all fucking day, and it only seemed to get worse when he took some pills for it. After moping around his apartment for most of the day, waiting in vain for the damn headache to go away, he decided, fuck it, may as well go out and get something to eat.
So, the evening found him walking into the pub down the street from his apartment, a place he’d been to thousands of times. He barely nodded to the people he passed as he walked inside, too grumpy and in pain to properly greet anyone. Henry took a seat at the bar with a groan and lifted a hand to get the bartender’s attention.
As he waited for Anna to walk over and take his order, he glanced around the bar and took in the details of those around him, carefully filing away the information in case it was useful later. He wasn’t on a case right now, but it always paid to pay attention.
Eventually, he locked eyes with someone across the bar without meaning to. Though he wasn’t really in the mood for it, he figured he probably should be polite. So, he offered them a strained smile and dipped his aching head in a “how ya’ doin’” gesture.
