Q - Why you took part?
“I had reservations at first because there is a women's march that I attend in March each year and didn't know whether we needed this one. But then I considered everything that has happened recently around the world and I knew I had to march. I needed to march for equality, for freedom, for trust and honesty, for respect, to be heard, to be listened to, to feel in control and really simply for some common courtesy which I think has been forgotten in politics. Brexit, Trump, NHS cuts, the desperate state of migrants being stuck unsupported, the threat of terror etc has all been really upsetting to witness, almost passively, without any ability to make a difference. Its incredibly sad and disturbing to know that our future is decided for us by power hungry MPs. It has to change and people have got tired. We want a change and you really felt that yesterday.”
Q - What the atmosphere was like?
“Fantastic, incredibly in fact. Very moving. It felt empowering that everyone was out in the freezer but sunny streets of London knowing we all believed the same thing. And not only in London, but all over the world. Its insane. I loved it. I welled up several times. It was beautiful seeing people of all ages, races, cultures, backgrounds, come out and shout, together! The streets were packed full, to an absolute stand still, but the adrenaline was immense! The shouting was like a chorus that travelled down the streets, it was electrifying.”
Q - What you saw?
“When I saw children holding banners it really moved me and made me think how important it is that we sort the future out for the next generation. OK a march might not have a direct affect but it is a really empowering thing to do, and it just screams how standing in solidarity can inspire a change. I saw mums and dads out with small kids, grans, mums, sisters, brothers, friends, families, all out to show how much they want a change and want respect!”
Q - Why this matters to us in Britain?
“Why wouldn't it matter to us in Britain. It matters to everyone. Its a global alarm to have a US President who doesn't understand how to respect his people and thinks that women are inanimate objects to grab. "Grabbing Back" was a slogan I saw on lots of posters and I think that speaks volumes at just how disturbed and disgusted people are that Trump can comfortably degraded women, passing it off as a flippant comment. Its 2007 and we are still battling for common human respect, which is astonishing. Its baffling that we have to protest for human rights, but especially because its against the actions of a President! Its astonishing that women have to protects for equal rights and respect. "My pussy, my choice" just said it all!”
Q - Oh and of course…. Your thoughts on Trump?!
“Gosh, where do I start? I think he's paranoid, incredibly insecure, and disgustingly immature! He is in no fit state to be a leader of a country, and I have absolutely no respect for him. I hope he gets his wings clipped by his party so that he doesn't have the power to make the changes he is threatening to do. Its a desperate situation knowing that he could for example, reinstatement the “global gag” rule, which just leads me to believe that he is very narrow minded and has great lack of intelligence.”
