Nothing gets between an autistic individual, the dogshit show they hate, and the one character they like in it despite how bad the show is
I am LOVING all the Hazbin hate that’s been entering my feed omg, yesss tumblr, FEED ME MORE GOOD OPINIONS!!!
Helluva boss redesigns!
DISCLAIMER!!
I genuinely hate vivian medrano and all her work, these were made on spite alone
Warning for cartoony guts under the cut
Mfs be like: "you just wouldn't understand what true media literacy is" and then show helluva boss, hazbin hotel, or some other shit like that
I get disliking helluva boss, but how miserable do you have to be to make your entire blog about hating it, not critiquing it in a respectful manner, but just hating it without any arguments
Touching grass could really help some people 😑😑
a dark crowded stage in the corner of the internet, lit up with a single dingy spotlight. I walk up to the microphone and tap it, letting out a small squeal of feedback. I take a deep breath to steady myself as I lean in to the microphone… “I like Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. They are not bad shows just because they’re imperfect” I get booed off stage.
Ok but seriously, it is so hard not to go a second without stumbling into the most bad faith surface level takes or people simply hating the show because it’s popular to do so without ever actually watching it, or because dunking on something brings in more revenue. It’s so hard to find actually good criticism of the show that isn’t tainted with hate. I have my own reservations and criticisms of the shows, but I don’t think the show is bad, and I don’t think it deserves the all the hatred it gets. I don’t like that people tease and bully people who like the Hellaverse. It’s so anti-fandom, calling someone cringe for liking something you don’t like, just how people did in the past with now beloved anime and cartoons. It’s fine to dislike things that you just don’t vibe with, I’m not going to police what you do or don’t like. Because fandom policing is so fucking annoying. But that’s exactly what you people are doing, dunking on and sometimes even harassing people who have the gall to just like a show. And when called out for this, you just call people “Vivziepop glazers” (even if they aren’t) or defend your hatred for the show with the most lukewarm, tepid, surface level takes I have ever seen. Just be honest and say you just don’t like the show, you don’t have to use nonsensical reasons to validate your opinion. I’ve seen people say that Charlie is a horrible main character, I agree that I think her naïveté can be grating at times, but the show currently only has one season! Give it a chance. She still has plenty of time to develop and have a character arc.
I’ve heard people say that Stolas is a horrible character and a bad father… and I really don’t get that. He isn’t a perfect father in any case, but he has always clearly shown his deep love for his daughter, he clearly always put effort into caring for her as evidenced by flashbacks and photos on his castle walls. The strain in their relationship is a new development caused by the discord between her parents. Stolas does not prioritize Blitz over Octavia, the times where that it seems that way are immediately disproven as he drops everything for Octavia.
I’ve seen people complain about Stolitz, that it’s too toxic, too problematic, that Stolas is manipulative. And I think… 1. Yes it’s toxic that’s the point. Fandom thrives on toxic ships, are you new here? 2. It’s hell it’s not that problematic to be honest, I’ve seen actual shipping horrors. 3…. Where? If you don’t like the ship, that’s fine, but stop pretending it’s worse than it is. Most people point to the power imbalance when hating the ship being included as a canon part of the show, and I think they miss the point. The power imbalance is part of what makes the ship dynamic interesting, and these are demons in fictional hell. It isn’t meant to be a role model for real world relationships. It’s just fun, and this dynamic eventually becomes an important plot point in the show. You point to the pilot episode being a little different in its characterization of Stolas and I think it’s a bit unfair. There’s too much importance being stressed in the pilot when it’s clear that that isn’t how the story ended up going. And yet when Vivziepop and Spindlehorse productions recently released the official Episode 1 to rectify characterizing, people dunked on that! Isn’t a retcon what you wanted, to fix the characterization?
Lastly, Angeldust. Oh this is so important. If you are not a victim or survivor of SA and rape, you cannot in good faith call Angeldust a “bad representation”. I have seen way too much obsession on needing victims to behave a certain way, of wanting perfect victims. No one version of victim exists, and you saying that diminishes the experience of so many victims. Some people relate to Angel. Some people don’t. That doesn’t take away from the fact that he is so incredibly important. His existence, his portrayal, and his relevance as a character is so important. And honestly, I feel some of it comes from a subconscious or blatant disgust for his femininity, for his blatant sexuality. And honestly how dare you go around policing sexuality, policing how victims should act, perpetuating this need for a ‘good gay’, a ‘good victim’.
This show is by no means perfect, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. That doesn’t mean that it deserves the hate it gets. These shows are important for what they are. So very important. They are very loudly queer, well animated indie shows written by a queer Latina woman. They are loudly queer indie shows that became so massively popular so fast, that gained so much success they got picked up by big studios. Do you not see how important that is? The show doesn’t have to be perfect, you don’t have to like it, but could you at least show people basic respect? Could you find it in you to just say “ I just don’t like it, and you do, that’s fine” and leave it alone? Im so tired of this. Im so tired of fandom culture lately.
I like these shows. I like these characters. You don’t. That’s all there needs to be too it.
