2. Which spy would you challenge to an arm wrestling match you absolutely had to win?
Oh boy! I don’t think there’s a single option where my weak arms would stand a chance... If I had to pick... Maybe Amari? He’s got the dad energy that might make him take pity on me and let me win
3. Which spy would you challenge to an arm wrestling match you absolutely had to lose?
Any of them
9. If you could witness any character dancing to a song of your choice, who would it be and what song?
Whenever the idea of dancing comes up this always comes to mind, and I think it would be funny for one of the more serious characters like Fukumoto or odagiri to dance to it
10. Have you read Robinson Crusoe?
Nope!
11. Do you think you’d be able to follow the rules “Don’t die, don’t kill”?
I think I can do the ‘don’t kill’ part but the odds aren’t in my favor for the first part
12. Which spy’s hairstyle do you think would look best on you?
My hair fluffs straight outwards when it goes shorter than shoulder length and it is Not A Good Look... I guess I will take Amari’s nightmarish fluffy hair because it will look the Least Worst
13. Do you know the colour of every spy’s eyes off the top of your head?
It’s... all browns and greys right? I think Fuku/Oda/Jitsu have grey eyes and everyone else has some variant of brown. (And Sakuma has blue)
14. How did you get into Joker Game?
Back in the day I still had the enthusiasm to look through the seasonal charts and watch anything that caught my fancy. Oh to be a little baby that had that much free time again...
Hi these were asked of me like two weeks ago and I never got back to them so apologies to Potet, and decidedly less apologies to Riley. Answers under the cut.
💡 3. Has creating a character ever made you realize something about yourself?
I try not to think too deeply about how much of myself I’m projecting on to a character. On a more shallow note it has taught me I really like drawing short haired girls and some incredibly generic and same-y guys.
🦋 4. Any minor characters that have either taken over or branched off into their own stories?
I think I’ve mentioned this before, but Etsuko ended up stealing the main character role from a Jirou (who I don’t think has ever appeared on this blog?). It was mostly due to her seeming like a better fit for the story than Jirou’s “edgy shounen boy” deal, and also because she ended up becoming my favorite. Jirou mostly plays a supporting role nowadays, but I still love him dearly. Outside of these two I usually design characters with it in mind that they’ll be the MC, so it doesn’t happen as often.
📌 7. Do you have characters that you know you’ll never use, but can’t bear to get rid of/recycle?
Ferres and Anise were my first set of really developed characters with a seriously planned out story to them, so I’m still particularly fond of them. That being said they were developed in middle school, so everything about them is Kind Of Bad. I’ve thought about recycling them a couple times but they’re such a time capsule of my middle school mentality and I generally have a hard time drastically altering characters, so I’ve yet to find a good story for them to hang out it. That being said, they were incredibly prophetic of my taste in hair for characters in the future...
💔9. Is there a character that embodies your bad traits? Several characters? Which ones and what traits?
Like I said above, I don’t really think I want to look into that too hard. I think the characters who are a little unsure of what they want from life or have difficulty expressing their emotions are a little easier for me to relate to.
🎵 13. Do you create playlists for your characters?
Nope. I do like to imagine hypothetical anime openings for them though.
🎇 14. When writing for specific characters, is there anything you have to do to get into the right mindset?
I don’t think there’s anything in particular? As long as the character is well developed enough, I can sort of follow whatever their logic may be.
🏆 19. What’s more important to you: visual design, unique personality, a trendy character aesthetic, etc? If you’re not sure, then what’s the first thing you usually nail down in a character?
I think the visual design and personality kind of go hand in hand, though I wouldn’t necessarily call my characters unique... More often than not I tend to have a vague personality in mind before the character is designed. Lately I’ve really wanted to have characters with a more standout fashion sense.
