The Happiness Planner
Browsing around the internet I came across what’s known as “The Happiness Planner”. It had some interesting information that I wanted to bookmark somehow. Tumblr is my bookmarking station so Im saving it here.
I am by no means claiming this content as my own. I am just saving the notes here. (I have a bit of a fear sometimes that a website will disappear with information that I want to remember on it. It’s happened before.)
Deconditioning
We are excited to see that you are on this page and reading this. It means that you have come pretty far in your personal development journey to realize that there are unhealthy behavior patterns that you'd like to change. This is what we call "deconditioning". Deconditioning is the opposite of conditioning. It is a system for diminishing or eliminating the conditioned responses or behavior patterns we have developed since we're little. The way we have been conditioned to be depends on a lot of factors. i.e. our upbringing, past experiences, what society deems appropriate or good. In most cases, these patterns are unconscious - meaning, you do many of them without even thinking about it. If the behavior pattern is unhealthy or negative, this is where you start to create real problems for yourself or in your interaction with others and in relationships. Continuing to run the same old behaviors, you block yourself from reaching your full potential and create the life of your dreams.
The key ingredient for creating a pattern interrupt and learning new behaviors is "awareness". You can’t change something if you’re not conscious of the fact that it’s happening.
The first step is becoming aware that you are repeating an old pattern that you no longer wish to have and identify what the pattern is.
The second step is to observe yourself while you’re running the pattern closely enough that you can pinpoint the precise moment where you get off track.
It is in the moment of sharp awareness and consciousness that you can start installing a new behavior. It starts with living more consciously and paying more attention to what you normally do on auto-pilot. Then in the moment when you're about to slip into your old pattern, make a conscious choice to pause, think, and install a new behavior or a new way of responding to things. It won't stick at first, so you'd have to do it over and over until the new behavior or the new way of responding has been installed in your subconscious mind and become a part of who you are.

"Reframe Your Thoughts" Printable
Happiness is a state of mind; it lies in the way you look at things - and this can be practiced, influenced, shaped and changed. Our thought about something affects how we feel about it. So if we want to change how we feel, we have to change our thought - in other words, the way we think.
When a negative event arises, practice looking at things from all angles and seeing things from a different point of view. Instead of focusing on the negative, focus on the positive, the lessons learned, and the growth. When things don’t go our way, learn to accept and understand. This practice is not easy. But it will get easier each time we practice it as we keep rewiring our brain until it becomes a part of who we are.

"Put Yourself In Their Shoes" Printable
Everyone is different. It is inevitable that we will have disagreements and conflicts with people in our lives especially with those close to us. However, if we can learn to put ourselves in their shoes, we will not be as upset as we learn to become more understanding and acceptant. Disagreements will be resolved in a calmer manner. It is not easy to put ourselves in other people's shoes, but if we keep practicing it, one day it will become automatic for us to do so. Not only will we have more peace of mind by adopting this habit, but we will also foster stronger bonds and more harmonious relationships that last with those we love.
