Would you stop looking at me like that?
Redstone and Skulk, Chapter 10, by @silverskye13
In which there are no mistakes.
In which we fidget
i know that comparatively, impulse and the demon arent the focus of rns, but i'm still remarkably compelled by whatever is going on there? like impulse is pretty well known in both hermitcraft and the fandom as the nice, generous person who works really hard to help his friends, which has also fed into the "don't you wanna go apeshit?" mindset from his fans during the life series. and the demon- the demon is the manifestation of the resentment that comes from that. a sort of selfishness deemed uncharacteristic of such a "good" person. everything that impulse might wish he could be, but chooses not to. and the demon is such a daunting, dangerous figure over rns canon anyway, what with the grudge against tanguish and the rigged fight for helsknight, and i keep wondering about all this set up
sorry about the ramble, but you've genuinely made such a cool story with so many interesting characters and details and i love daydreaming bout them all ^^
Feel free to ramble! I apologize that it takes me so long to answer the ramblings!
The Demon as the poster child for the resentment of kind people is very powerful to me. There is something deeply relatable to the overlooked and overshadowed; to working hard to be a good person, to fill the needs of the people around you, and do such a good job that people forget it's still work. There is something to being taken advantage of for your kindness, not because people are being willfully malicious, but because they think you won't care, and they don't bother to ask if you do. The Demon is someone demanding his dues, in a world where he feels robbed of them before he even got the chance to give them. He's the ruthless enforcement of what he thinks he deserves, what he knows he deserves, at any and all costs. It's the paranoid protection of self, so that no harm can be done, no advantage stolen. It's biting back before someone can find the time or reason to bite first. It's to be so miserly with his kindness that he does harm to prove it doesn't exist. The Demon is the selfish voice in a kind person's head that says, "If I was cruel just once, they would finally respect the kindness I give so freely. If I was selfish just once, they would finally recognize how unselfish I am all the time."
But Impulse is the unselfish bit, the kind bit, that doesn't exist in hels. And the Demon is a nasty, resentful thing on his own.
Wait a minute. If hels often focus on people's fatal flaws... (grinding stone sound as I look from tangos flaw to Tanguish)
Wrath fuels a lot of things, and those things can keep people separated. Mostly, my thoughts are resentment. I remember when BDubs did his betrayal in Last Life, and was worried about approaching Tango on Hermitcraft because "he's still going to want revenge." There's something about a wrath so intense it carries. Something about a wrath that someday ebbs into resentment and isolation. There's something about that wrath turning inwards, blaming yourself for being too stupid to see something coming. From wounding yourself so badly with your own anger that you no longer trust the people around you, no longer want to make yourself vulnerable to the people you care about, because who else could hurt you that badly?
I dunno. Character musings.
i was rereading redstone and skulk and it just hit me how. we never get to learn hels zed's name. he carved it, made sure people would see and remember, and yet it is never spoken. the characters know, but we don't. i wonder if that was intentional theming.
id like to know his name, if he has one. to remember him properly.
Ahhh, a very respectful request anon!
You are correct, we don't know his name (yet) intentionally. But for posterity's sake, and because it will be a while before the quiet moment when we finally learn it, I will put it below a cut for you.
Hihi skye! I wanted to make a hels version of myself, so here's a hels version of my internet sona! (different than my pfp, that's our systems sona/how we all present) The hair has been inverted and they're confident and loud, often telling people what they think and how the person should be! This doesn't Always end up being nice (a bit of a way to work in those late night thoughts and also opposites :])
I used this picrew for it ( https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/2288696 ) and also wanted to share how our internet sona usually looks! (I've also always wanted to wear cool open button ups so they got that lol)
Ah!! I love them both! Oh my gosh
