⁣ H is for… Helvetic Airways⁣ ⁣ Helvetic Airways (2L/OAW) | Callsign: Helvetic | Fleet Size: 16 | Destinations: 34 | Bases: Bern (BRN), Zurich (ZRH).⁣ ⁣ Helvetic Airways was established in 2003 as a rebranding and extension of Odette Airways, with the first flight being operated by a Fokker 100 aircraft. Over time the airline has grown to operate it’s own flights as well as for SWISS and Lufthansa from Zurich to various destinations in Europe and Northern Africa with a fleet that is now standardised around the Embraer E190, E190-E2 and E195-E2.⁣ ⁣ In February 2013, eight men armed with automatic weapons and dressed in police uniforms seized parcels, containing an estimated $50 million worth of diamonds from a Helvetic Airways Fokker 100 aircraft at Brussels Airport. The men drove two vehicles through a hole they had cut in the airport's perimeter fence to Flight LX789, which had just been loaded with diamonds from an armoured van. Embraer has got itself a second E2-operator in Europe after Wideroe when Swiss Helvetic Airways starts services with its first E190-E2 on November 1.

Helvetic Airways Embraer E190 swooping in over the docks to land on Runway 09 at London City after her flight from Geneva.

Having flown on Helvetic the other week from LCY to ZRH I have to say the crew were great but I was disappointed that the original aircraft (SWISS CS100) got diverted into Birmingham due to fog as I much prefer the C-Series/ A220 to the Embraer.
