Serving mainly domestic routes, Linjeflyg operated its fleet of almost two dozen Fokker 28 jets out of Stockholm's international airport in Arlanda. Linjeflyg thereby retained closed ties with SAS Scandinavian Airline System who held 50% of its stock, and occasionally, one of Linjeflyg's Fokker 28 had the chance to substitute for one of SAS' DC-9 on an international schedule to a destination further South in Europe.

When SAS bought the remaining shares of Linjeflyg in 1992, the company was completely integrated into SAS, which also ment that the Fokker 28 were then more often deployed on secondary international routes with less demand.

The small regional airport of Innsbruck in Austria's State of Tyrol became the brithplace and home of Tyroelan Airways when the carrier formed as regional airline in 1980. Initially using two De Havilland Canada DHC-7 STOL aircraft, the carrier established scheduled services to neighbouring hubs, giving the relatively small Alpine town of Innsbruck and the various winter resorts nearby the sought-after links to international airline services.

With the carrier's growth into Austria's leading regional airline during the 1990s and the subsequent alliance with flag carrier Austrian Airlines, its business from Innsbruck became secondary at best with just two or three regular routes operated by Dash 8 commuters (Innsbruck to Frankfurt, Vienna and Zürich), but during the busy winter holidays and skiing period, Tyroelan regularly added seasonal leisure flights to destinations in the Netherlands, Scandinavia and the UK to its Innsbruck-portfolio, usually flown by the Fokker 70 jets.

Luxair, the flag carrier of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, used four units of the Fokker 50 to replace its earlier Fokker 27 turboprops that Western Europe's smallest flag carrier used to link the capital airport Luxembourg Findel with European hubs and popular destinations. Introduced in 1985, some of them remained with Luxair until 2005.
