MR. KIM
by ECB
German artist Hendrik Beikirch, aka ECB, from the ancient city of Koblenz where the Moselle and Rhine rivers converge, is no stranger to painting portaits on a massive scale. A little over a year after painting the tallest mural in Asia, in Busan, South Korea, ECB was in the Korean neighborhood of North Station, Baltimore, where he painted another large-scale portrait. Just 150 meters from the Seoul Rice Cake Factory, ECB says he decided it would be best if the portrait he painted was not someone living right next to the image so he chose to paint the late father of the bakery owner. Facing out over North Ave., Mr. Kim was painted for the second Open Walls Baltimore festival in 2014—an event featuring 15 works and curated by renowned artist Gaia. ECB’s mural was also supported by the Goethe-Institut Washington. @goethe_dc @gaiastreetart
