Gorgeous Friday for a beach day - all sun, light wind and high 20°s. PS Adelaide is inland, who knew.

We chose Henley Beach (there are several good ones to choose from) and after our delish cappuccinos, hopped right on the bus with our swimsuits donned and towels, sandals, hats and water in tow. Easy peasy and 38 minutes later we arrived at the largest, white sand beach with no crowds.

We replenished our SPF50 spray sunscreen, bought some grapes and headed to our spot.

Now you might be wondering why visit Adelaide? It was not a penal colony like Sydney and Melbourne but a manufacturing settlement with Germans being the first immigrants to settle here. Hence why the hillsides are filled with cold weather grape vineyards. Like Canberra, it was a planned city with huge swathes of parkland surrounding the man made river. Now the city has the mining industry to thank for the economic boost when manufacturing slowed. The Adelaide Oval (footie stadium) has a really stunning copper roof.

Yesterday we visited the Central Market which rivals or maybe surpasses Granville Island. And we went to the Time exhibition at the Museum of Discovery. There’s a Cellar Door Wine Festival starting today. Maybe we’ll check that out tomorrow if it’s as hot as forecasted. We’ll miss the Fringe Festival starting at the end of the month - but as I recall there’s one in Perth while we’re there.

We’re checking out the art gallery today. There is more than one apparently.

Definitely would recommend a visit to Adelaide.
