Henning May is a bit of a new obsession. And i feel like it has a short shelf-life until either I learn German, or Henning sings more in English. The covers that he’s done with the band, AnnenMayKantereit, are stunning. HE is also stunning, so that helps too. Musically talented as well. He plays guitar, bass, ukulele, piano. Seems like there’s not much he can’t play.

HIs voice is deep and growling, but it can also be tender and quiet. Here are some of my favorites from YouTube.

Roxanne - a cover of the song by The Police

I love how he sings, “You don’t care if it’s wrong, or if it’s right.”

And, “I won’t share with another boy.”

Really gets me in the guts, while also sending electricity down my spine.

I Just Can’t Get You Outta My Head - a cover of a song by Kylie Minogue

I love both of their voices. The high and low. Gorgeous. I love that they don’t alter the gender of the song’s lyrics, and that gives it a casual queer vibe, intentional or not. Henning really belts it out in this one; he sweating with the effort of getting this right. Great musicians, great vibes.

Let It Be - a cover of a song by the Beatles

Gorgeous. I honestly don’t think I’ve thought about the lyrics to this song before, until I heard them as sung by Henning. Of course he accompanies himself on bass; it’s the instrument that goes best with his baritone.

Tom’s Diner - a cover of a song by Suzanne Vega

I remember this song properly from Suzanne Vega when I was a teenager. Loved it then too. This is probably the most well-known of the covers they’ve done. Apparently, it was all over Tik Tok. Tons of YouTubers have reacted to this, and it’s another stunner.

And here is a German song that I really love. The title translates to “you’ll never hurt me anymore”. I’ve tried listening to their songs with Google Translate, but it’s not so good with singing. Just translating the titles helps a little.
