When Zora asked you to come on this mission with her, you hadn't expected a cute nerdy doctor to be on the trip as well. It was explained to you as a dangerous sample retrieval. Based on how it was going, you were questioning the weight behind those words.
The sample was in Duncan's hand. Two down, one to go. Retrieving the first was fairly simple, it had come up before you were even at the island. Zora shot it from the boat as it swam alongside you.
You had nearly fallen off the boat when the Mosasaurus slammed into it, but someone grabbed you before the water could take you. You were pulled flush against Dr. Loomis, his hands tight on your sides.
"You okay?"
"Uh huh."
The second sample was the easiest to get and part of probably the most ethereal scene you'd ever witnessed. You'd never seen a dinosaur up close like this. Sure, you'd seen fossils and you'd seen pictures and obviously you had heard about them online but... seeing them now was a whole different experience. Clearly it was for Henry as well.
He has his hand on the Titanosaurus's leg as he glances back at you, his eyes watery. You smile at him but his face changes. His gaze moves to something behind you and his smile drops, expression becoming worried.
"Look out!" He shouts and you turn, spotting a Quetzalcoatlus flying directly at you. Your eyes widen and you take a small step back but you're frozen in fear as a loud roar sounds from the sky. Suddenly, a body collides with yours as you're tackled to the ground just as the Quetzalcoatlus swoops at you, his mouth wide open. It flies directly over you and Henry, missing you by a few inches.
The dinosaur swoops up in the sky and as it curves back to attack again, Leclerc shoots at it, the bullets grazing by its wings. It retreats with a shriek when one of the bullets pierces through its skin.
You're breathing heavy as you stared up at Henry. He'd landed halfway on top of you after the tackle and now he watched you with a worried expression.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah." You breathed, nodding.
"Good... good." You wait a few moments before speaking.
"Do you wanna get off me now?"
"Yep, yes, sorry." He quickly gets to his feet, holding out a hand to help you up.

The third sample should have been easy to get. Sneak into the Pteranodon nest, get the sample from one of the eggs, and be on your way. But, as it turns out, dinosaurs aren't all that amenable to humans messing with their babies.
"Do we have to get a sample from an egg?" Martin asked, crouching down next to Henry. He paused, turning to address him.
"I suppose we could try to get it from the parent, but they're a flying carnivore the size of an F16." He replied, shrugging his backpack on. You chuckled at his response, shaking your head as you fastened the rope around yourself and the doctor glanced up. "What's so funny?" He must not realize the humor in his dry tone.
"Oh, nothing." You shake your head again. You catch him watching as Leclerc rappels down the cliff side, Henry leaning over the edge, his eyes wide. You put a hand on his shoulder and he jolts. "Are you good?"
"Yeah, I'm good. Yeah, yeah." He crawls back from the edge. "Uh, I mean I have a twenty foot climbing wall in my gym, so..." You look up at him as you put on your gloves.
"There you go, that's exactly like what we're doing." He smiles at your reassurance and Duncan drops a pair of gloves into his lap, crouching next to him.
"Yeah but, twenty five times in a row and you're five hundred feet up, so, if you fall... you die."
"Okay, that's unhelpful." You muttered, standing and readying yourself to rappel down. Henry begins the descent, forcing himself to take deep breaths.
He starts off well, but then he kicks off too far and his feet don't reach the wall. He clings to the rocks once he gets close enough, his eyes wide. You glide down your own rope, pausing next to him.
"It's fun, right?" You smile, continuing on down as he glances down at you. He takes a deep breath before accidentally giving himself way too much slack as he starts free falling down. He catches himself, coming to a sharp stop next to you with a yelp before clinging to the rocks again.
"You're doing great. Only forty more feet to go." You gave him a smile before the two of you heard a loud screech and looked up. The Quetzalcoatlus is near. "Time to go." You lower yourself the rest of the way down to the nest. Henry lands next to you a moment later, only, he lands slightly behind you, his feet halfway off the ledge, the momentum making him lean backward.
His eyes widened and his arms waved a little, trying to keep himself from falling. You turn around, quickly grabbing his outstretched arm and pulling him back onto the ledge.
"See? Just like the gym." He gives you a smile as he starts to unhook himself from the rope but a glance into the nest distracts him. He heads further in to check it out and you follow.
Watching him step carefully into the nest, you ask, "What is this place? Some kind of ancient temple?" He crouches down, lifting an egg to the light and inserting the extraction device.
"It won't hurt the embryo." He mutters, almost to himself as it starts to fill. You wander behind him, glancing around at the walls of the cave-like nest.
"Maybe we should make this quick."
"Not without breaking the egg sack." You crouch in front of him, watching as he works.
"You're a very impressive nerd, Henry." He chuckles at that, glancing away for a moment as a blush rises on his cheeks. "What would the alternative be?"
"To what?" He asks, his focus still on the egg.
"To handing the samples over to Parker Genix." He looks up at you now, his eyes gleaming.
"We open source it. We give it to the whole world. A bunch of people create the medicine, nobody owns the patent, everyone has access, and tens of millions of lives are saved. It's all of us. Not some of us."
"I don't make any money in that scenario." You joked.
"Oh, no, you're broke as hell." He teased right back.
"Yeah, I don't love that part." He chuckled, his smile warming your insides.
"I've got it." He lifts the sample, sending a grin at you, which you returned before you heard a shout from Leclerc outside. You both turned your head to find the Quetzalcoatlus climbing into the nest.
"Uh oh." You said as you stood, Henry placed the egg back carefully and standing as well, scrambling to get out of the way as the dinosaur kept forward. It snapped its beak at him twice and he yelped, jumping backwards and trying to hide behind a pillar, you on the opposite side of the cave.
"Hey!" You got the Quetzalcoatlus's attention as it turned, shrieking at you. You cursed, backing away from it. "The sample!" You shouted to Henry when you noticed it still on the ground. He moved forward, trying to grab it but quickly scrambled back when the Quetzalcoatlus nipped at him, kicking the sample further away.
You started kicking at it to keep its attention when Leclerc threw his hammer in the cave, hitting the dinosaur in the head. It turned to growl at him before leaving the cave in search of Leclerc. As soon as it was gone, Henry rushed to grab the sample.
"Are you okay?" He looks up at you, concern furrowing his brows.
"Yeah. You?" You breathed but before he could respond, he noticed his rope rapidly being pulled out of the cave.
"Oh, shit-" He was yanked backwards, tumbling down the stairs and dragged across the ground as he grappled for the dropped sample. You raced after him barely grabbing his rope before your tugged down by it.
He's pulled over the ledge, falling freely until you catch yourself, feet bracing on the rock and stopping his fall. He grunts as he is swung around mid air, slamming into the stone. The rope swings to the side, knocking the sample lower into his view.
Henry attempts to swing himself over to grab the sample, the rope dragging along the stone, wearing away at the material.
"Henry! Henry, stop!" You call out to him.
"I nearly got it!" He swings again as you use all your strength to hold the rope. He makes it to the ledge this time but you can see the rope fraying.
"Henry! It's gonna break!" He grabbed the sample, an elated smile growing on his face.
"I got it!"
It beeps and shoots out of his hand, the parachute deploying as the rope snaps. Henry watches it fall, the smile dropping from his expression as he realizes his predicament. You call out his name again, leaning over the edge and being forced to watch as the stone he's holding onto breaks off of the cliff, tumbling to the ground with him.
He tumbles through some trees, landing in a pit of water. When he surfaces, he crawls to a rock where he lays, catching his breath. As you, Kincaid, and Martin make it down, the sample slowly descends next to the doctor.
You make eye contact with him, chest heaving and mind racing at the thought of what could have happened to him.

You'd made it through the underground tunnel system to the end where the metal bars stood in your way of freedom. Isabella, the young girl that's you'd picked up at the beginning of this whole mess was able to slip through the bars.
You all shouted for her to stop, to come back, but she ran to the control panel that would open the gate. What she didn't realize was that the D-rec was out there waiting for her.
"Guys we have to open the gate, they're coming!" Teresa shouted hysterically as she watched the Mutadon climb through the gate above her.
Bella opened the gate and the D-rex leaned down, peering through into the tunnels. You all hurried to either side of the opening, Henry pulling you back with him to hide from the dinosaur. Suddenly, a siren sounded, pulling its attention away from the group of you. Martin's jeep was loudly approaching and he didn't notice the D-rex until it was too late.
It slammed a hand down on the front of the car making Martin fly up and slam into the top of the windshield, flipping over the front of it.
"Go, go, go!" Kincaid said, and everyone started running forward, using the distraction of the dinosaur to escape. You noticed that Teresa still had her eyes locked on the Mutadon in fear and you rushed back to get her.
"The gate's open, we have to go." You pushed her ahead of you as the Mutadon made it through the gate above the tunnels, rising to its feet above you. You backed up, turning to run away but you weren't fast enough.
The dinosaur lunges at you, bringing you to the ground as its teeth sink into your leg, the first appendage it could reach. You cried out in pain as Kincaid ran back to help, shooting at the dinosaur. It screeched, backing off as he dragged you away.
"Now, Z, now!" Duncan yelled, half-dragging you out of the tunnels and Zora slammed the lever down, the gate quickly shutting before the Mutadon could make it out.
You were on your feet but losing blood fast as you followed the others to the dock, Henry taking over for Duncan, slinging your arm over his shoulders as you limped beside him. The D-Rex grabbing Martin in its fist, lifting him into the air and taking a bite out of him and Z ran back to grab the briefcase with the samples.
"Lower the boat." Zora called.
"Where's the power?" Reuben asked, flicking a switch. An alarm sounded and Zora passed the briefcase to Reuben, taking over. Suddenly, the little girl cried out, staring up at the D-Rex who looked above her, growling lowly. The group was split, Xavier, Reuben, Zora, and Teresa by the boat, you, Henry, and Kincaid on the other end of the doc, and Bella in between, frozen in fear.
"It's attracted to the lights, turn it off. Turn it off!" Henry shouted, but his words gave Duncan an idea as he looked up at the dinosaur.
"Give me the flares!" Kincaid said, tugging them out of Henry's pocket. "I've got it, I've got it-"
"No, no, no-" Henry started to protest but Duncan was already lighting them.
"Hey! Right here! You want me?" Duncan waved the flare, backing away from where you and Henry stood, drawing the D-rex's attention away from Bella. "Come on! Come on!" Zora noticed and rushed away from the boat, calling out to her friend.
"Don't wait, Zora, get the kids! Go!"
"Come on!"
"Save them!" Duncan nodded as Henry led you to the other end of the dock away from the dinosaur, Kincaid running and diving into the water, sacrificing himself for all of you. Zora rushed back, beginning to whack at the chain that held the boat up until it snapped, dropping the boat into the water.
She ushers everyone in, the family first, then Henry who climbs in before you to help you down into it.
"Zora! Zora, come on!" You shouted from the boat as she stood on the dock, calling out for Duncan. "We have to go!" She looked back at you and clenched her jaw, rushing back to the boat. Reuben yanks at the chain until the boat starts, just before the d-rex can get you, the boat speeds away.
It's roar echoes in the night after you as it turns, heading back to the water. Zora calls out for him twice more before she sees something shoot into the sky. A flare.
"Turn the boat around!" She flicks the light on as you search for Duncan in the water. He has another flare in his hand, smiling widely as the boat approaches him.

The sun is rising on the horizon, painting the water a shimmering gold as the boat sails further and further from the island. Henry, sat next to you, yanks off his vest, tying it around your leg to act as a tourniquet. You've lost a lot of blood tonight.
"Sorry, I'm sorry." He apologizes when you winced in pain. "How do you feel?" Henry asks, glancing at you worriedly.
"Fine. I feel kinda lightheaded, though."
"That'd be the blood loss." You chuckled a bit. Your head slumps down onto his shoulder as you sighed. You glanced up to find a group of dolphins swimming beside the boat. A smile grows on your face and you look over at Henry who is smiling also.
He looks down at you, his gaze flickering down to your lips for a moment. You lean a little closer to him, your nose nudging against his jaw, giving him permission. He finally bends down fully, slotting his lips against yours, tilting his head. The kiss is sweet, brief, but sweet all the same.
His arm settles carefully around your shoulders as you lean into his side once again, your eyes fluttering shut as the boat takes you home.
