Henry 5
take a break
( @hrutherford )
With the holiday season settling in, Alexandra was getting busier by the minute and ever since Henry had gone back to work, which prompted her to go back to her old life and apartment, the couple had been spending limited time together. It was probably why she had decided to drop by the restaurant unannounced and steal him for a few minutes. Alex had gotten used to his presence, to the scent of his soap on the pillow, to the warmth of his presence beside her whenever they laid down to sleep. It wasn’t surprising how organic they felt and how great they seemed to work together... if there was anything, Alex had known almost since the beginning that they would be good to each other and with each other.
She knocked lightly on his office after stopping by the kitchen to say hello to Jackson and once she was allowed in, the brunette stepped into her boyfriend’s workspace, wearing a smile on her lips, not entirely sure if she was happy to see him or if she was happy to see him working. Alex knew how much those days trapped in his apartment had influenced his mood and now, seeing him there, handling paperwork--yes, she was a sucker for this man.
“Am I interrupting?” Alex stepped closer to him, leaving her bag on an empty chair, before leaning in to press her lips to his. “It’s such a nice day today, do you want to escape work for an hour or two and take a walk with me? Yes, you’ve heard it right... I just asked you to leave work. Me. Miss Workaholic 2016.” She joked. Another thing she had done more ever since she started spending more time with Henry. “I’m sure Jackson can handle everything for two hours. If not, fire him. I’ll take over.” She winked as she stepped back to the chair where her purse was. “By the way... I completely forgot to give back your key.” Alex had already untangled it from her other keys, to make it easier to give it back to him as she had no intention of keeping it for longer than it was necessary, she had just been too busy to make a trip to St. Kilda and return it to him.

Interesting bit of history: During the Hundred Years' War, there was this really big battle between the English ( led by Henry 5) and the French. If you've ever seen Shakespeare's Henry 5, then this is the battle with the "we few we happy few we band of brothers" speech. Anyway, one of the strengths of the English army was their archers. The day before the battle there was a rumor going around that if the French captured any of the English archers, they'd cut off their middle finger, because that was the most important finger in arching and the archers would be unable to shoot properly without it. Needless to say the archers were not pleased and as they were facing the French on the battlefield they all held up their third fingers to show that they were not beaten yet. Anyway that's how we got the rude hand gesture.
