It depends upon how he came into power and how old he was when it happened. I have one verse where Haytham is born royalty and is extremely fair, wanting only the best for his people and working day in and day out to improve their society and preserve their culture, despite his disagreeing with their methods of gaining income -- he would rather they at least have a self-sufficient economy, but understands that this is an impossibility and agrees to keep them out of global trade for the sake of keeping them safe. Haytham also comes to power through a coup in another verse of mine, and again rules fairly. To be honest, I can’t see him abusing his power unless he’s already lost his mind -- which is the case in my Tyranny of King Washington-based AU where the Templars keep their hold on the Revolution to the very end and Haytham is left alone to rule; he withdraws from the public eye and does very little to aid the Colonies, though he luckily avoids becoming a selfish resource-sucking black hole as some rulers were wont to be. I honestly can’t see Haytham being anything but a strong leader if only because he is one of the few who truly believes in the Templar mission of creating a Utopia and preserving civilizations as opposed to tearing them down and building over them. As Grand Master, he works to improve the cities that the Templars hold and does not go out of his way to leech off of the people; he is generally fair towards his followers but has no patience for deserters or traitors, which is understandable.
