This is a lens test with my great friend and collaborator Brett Marty. When conceptualizing a portrait it is important and interesting to think about how you want the end shot to feel. The differences between a 50mm vs. an 85mm (or longer telephoto) are subtle but can completely change the impression of the image. Here the first three shots are taken with a Sigma Art 50mm 1.4 and the last three with a Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro. You’ll notice that the first three shots are moodier and more personal (perhaps) whereas the next three shots are punchier and feel more staged ............... What I am liking about the 90mm Tamron is that I can seamlessly move from a portrait situation to a macro situation, which has many uses for my personal work.

Henry Dombey - From Pompeii to Pandemonium on Exposure

When Hurricane Katrina hit I was another world away, working as a chef in Jackson, WY. and living in a small cabin 30 minutes south of town. I listened to the carnage over the radio as I drove to and from work and I remember feeling so outraged, disappointed, and helpless as it went from bad to worse. My only desire was to get closer and to see things with my own eyes. I called up former colleague and fellow compatriot Lars Russell and we concocted a plan to get down to New Orleans to try to tell the story of the first Mardi Gras after the flood. It was a thrilling and beautiful experience to collaborate with guitarist Pablo Villegas and Valeria Catan to create the record release video for his new album Americano. I’m really proud of how this came out and its amazing working with these two fine people.

This is a really exciting project with my wife - Laurine Wickett - the talented chef and owner of Left Coast Catering. The best part of catering is that you are always cooking and new and exciting menus to reflect the desires of each client. The challenge, is that because you are constantly adapting to your clients needs, it can be hard to really showcase your food. So we’re working on this collaboration to shoot three different staged events to serve her food, the way she thinks it should be prepared and her style, in terms of how she thinks the event should look. These are some of selects from the first shoot.

Alchemy GP approached my company CLUBSODAPRO to produce and create three national TV commercials for a brand re-boot for Bar’s Leaks auto products. I’m very happy to see these go live.

Last year I partnered with Josh Izenberg to produce, write, and create three animated commercials for auto product company Rislone. What a great experience working with illustrator Drew Lytle , animator Garrett Eaton, audio engineer Jeremiah Moore, and a great crew of VO artists.

Nice to see that the Bar’s Leaks commercial that I made last year has topped 375,000 views. Apparently its playing on live television but we don’t have a TV.
