It’s been a long, cold and dark 5 month lockdown and memories of the past summer are getting me through it. Not long now until the light returns 🥳

Dog Days
This week I decided to use a word or theme to stimulate my play-time. It's been a bit harder to enjoy the freedom of playtime since working from home. I think my days are busier and I have less space as I'm working and living in the same area. I also think that I'm doing a lot less things that I don't want to at the moment, things like having to be in a corporate office, commuting or socialising with colleagues. I think that working from home and having my art supplies around me has ironically made me want to play less. It's an important thing to work through because when I am working full time as an artist I will need to retain that sense of play all day long to come up with new ideas for works, events, products, marketing ideas and new goals. So this week my word prompt was 'Dog days'. I've heard this term in songs but never knew what it was. Apparently it's a period of hot, dank summer in early August, when everyone is lazy and lethargic from the heat. The dogs are sleepy and irritable. I tried to imagine myself in this heat when I drew these works, and also personified (in an animal?) the heat through my dogs. But most importantly, I tried to play as much as possible when making these works, exploring different techniques and processes. Check it out dawg.
