It’s a small place. But they have books. Considered vintage for the most part. Quaint decor to some. Mostly though - outdated, obsolete. Why put words on paper when you can’t update the feed? Can’t blast the most recent flash directly into peoples brains, stream it into their eyes and ears from the latest implant or wearable or device?
Anubis enjoys them. His mortal form finds some kind of pleasurable satisfaction in turning pages rather than doom-scrolling. The tactile nature of them is ultimately pleasing... Word pages, faded type...
There a few other trinkets and antiquities around, either beneath little domes or inside glass cases, to be gazed upon or purchased by an occasional collector. There’s something about being surrounded by the past that sets this mortal form at ease. Which is probably entirely not the case for his... ‘guest’. Or is he the guest? Hard to tell. But there’s steaming tea, in a proper china pot, with places set for two at the small table in the ‘book nook’.
Anubis ponders as he nibbles on a little cookie whether this would set Hephaestus ill at ease. With no wires or neon, no cables... Though there were discrete jacks beneath chairs for those who chose to indulge in new alongside the old. It wasn’t entirely Anubis’ intention to set the other on edge, but if he were to hear out Hephaestus proposal, then he’d rather be somewhere he could focus... Could... Think.
And while the snug corner appears shaded ( Anubis presence seeping into the atmosphere a little ) it darkens even further when a substantial form blocks out the light.
“Matthew.”
His chair shuffles back with a small scuff-squeak on the wooden floor, Anubis standing and gesturing to the opposite seat.
“Please, sit. Try the tea. It has quite an impeccable flavour.”
He doesn’t hold out his hand though. Physical contact is still somewhat pushing boundaries. He’s not exactly what you’d call - ‘a hugger’.
Minor pleasantries aside... This little tete-a-tete has a point. A purpose. There are things to be consulted - apparently. And curiosity is somewhat getting the better of him ( at least he’s a dog, not a cat, so hopefully there would be no killing of small domesticated creatures today ).
“You wished to discuss something?”
