Hephaestus and Aglaia
They’re so underrated and I wish ppl would explore their dynamic more instead of trying to fix Hephaestus and Aphrodite’s marriage.
Also there is a story mentioned in the Iliad were Hephaestus was trying to protect Hera from Zeus and in retaliation Zeus grabbed him by the foot and threw him of Olympus, and he landed on Lemnos. Hence the lightning scars.
In Hades I it’s your job to get people back together, in Hades II it’s your job to help Hephaestus and Aphrodite go through with the divorce.
Oh my god that would be so funny, imagine if it’s also helping Zeus and Hera divorce? Or it’s bringing Hephaestus and Aglaia together? Or help Hera and Pasithea/Angelos reconcile? That would be interesting.
“I’m tired of Hades x Persephone where is my Ares x Aphrodite retelling!?” I think you are underestimating the very real threat of Hephaestus being portrayed in a cartoonishly evil and ableist manner as well as Ares and Aphrodite’s more messed up aspects being watered down and removing any nuance and complexity you liked about them in the first place and write them as a generic jock x cheerleader to Hephaestus as a nerd. Bc that’s what writers are up to nowadays.
I made a meme lol
Thinking of Hephaestus’s angry speech against Ares and Aphrodite in the Odyssey
Specifically about how he claims the Aphrodite cheated bc of his disability, now one could dismiss this as him just being dramatic and trying to rationalize why his wife would treat him this way. But at the same time… we know how violently ableist Ancient Greece was, we know how ableist the Greek gods are, not just with Hera throwing Hephaestus as a baby for being lame but also the gods laughing at him bc of his limp in Iliad book 1 (it’s not specified which gods specifically tho):
Or Zeus straight us saying he’s disgusted by his limping (he also mentions how he’s covered in soot but he mentions the limping first) in Lucian’s Dialogue of the Gods:
Hephaestus obviously has a lot of internalized ableism but if what he says about Aphrodite is true… then that’s just more evidence that she was the one in the wrong imo.
