@overlooksouls Midnight Visitor continued- Frank & Beth
THERE WAS SOMETHING UNEXPECTED AND UNIQUE ABOUT BETH THAT HE COULDN’T EXPLAIN. there were certain instant connections and the amount they had talked after sex, and everything proved there was something special between them. it was like knowing her for years rather than a couple hours. there were few people he connected on such an emotional level with he could nme them on one hand, maybe two. when all was said and done with amy and billy and he was left to figure out his life again he ended up back in this town. it had been the first stop to mean something, and despite the wave of problems he found it mattered and it stuck with him.
he couldn’t explain what brought him here and he wasn’t even sure if she would open the door or not. he wasn’t her boyfriend, he was a stranger from the bar. he was a one night stand that had lingered and become a day with her and her son, then another night that hadn’t ended the same unfortunately. she had to have felt it too though, right? the obvious attraction. this idea like maybe he’d known her in some other life despite the fact that he didn’t really believe in that sort of thing. he used to be a church going man with his parents but he lost his faith a long time ago. didn’t see himself regaining it.
frank shifted as his hands buried in his jacket after knocking on the door and waiting, in all honesty he didn’t even know if she was awake or not. she could be out for all he knew. he pressed his lips together looking off behind him as he waited for her to answer or not answer. as the door opened his head turned back and he took a slow step backwards to give her some space as he stood there and gave a faint smile. she looked good honestly. like she was healing good and at least she was home right? way easier to sleep in your own bed. he shifted his jaw and exhaled a bit as he looked to her, “hey…” he spoke honestly as he looked at her and breathed in slowly. “i wasn’t sure you’d want to see me. not really sure if comin’ back was a good idea but uh….well…” he shrugged a bit as he pulled his hand from his pocket and rubbed his finger against his bottom lip slowly. “am i interruptin? i can come back. you know. i just wanted to make sure you were good….”
Beth's eyes softened realizing how they both seemed to be tiptoeing around each other. A particular kind of dance, almost like they were fighting instinct. She'd felt that way the moment she met him. Second-guessing her decisions-- since she was never this open with anyone this quickly. Let alone a stranger. But her instincts felt right. It was refreshing to lead with feelings rather than thoughts. Her soul felt as if she'd met him before. Kindred spirits orbiting each other. Waiting for a moment to collide again. Even after what happened at the bar, their connection seemed to be unparalleled.
Of course, she wanted to see him again. But was that even in the cards for them? Beth had hoped it was. Hair hanging loosely before her, she opened the door wider. An intimate but honest smile playing on her lips. "Of course I wanted to see you. Come in." she moved aside so he could enter. She closed the door behind him with a lock, and lead him away from the living room, into the kitchen so they could speak more freely. “My shoulder’s healing nicely. We were just watching Golden Girls, when he fell asleep.”
Beth glanced over at him. Rex seemed to be completely knocked out while the next episode of Golden Girls started to air. Beth couldn't help but smile about the turn the evening had just taken. She'd been thankful to finally have a peaceful night at home with her son after being in the hospital for so long. Then Frank arrives, and in a way, it put some of her concerns at ease that he'd made it out okay. Even if he did mention he seemed to be good at that sort of thing. He was quite wily and quick to react.
While Beth had her own go of a rough decade (nowhere near Frank's it would appear) she learned to adapt as well. All the while making sure to not fuck up being a mother. She'd chosen to keep Rex back then. Not once looking back at that decision with regret. He had filled a part of her she'd been neglecting for a long time. Extending a part of herself wasn't easy. But seeing the world through his eyes? Having him listen to the music that breathed life into her soul and seeing him experience it the way she did? Beth would make every fucked up decision that led her to have him. Each and every time. No fame or career could ever match up to that.
Almost like a routine, Beth took two beers out and set them on the counter. Offering him a fresh one, while she moved her shoulders back a little since it was starting to hurt again. Nothing big, just part of the process of healing. "Is it over?" she asked curiously. Feeling as if she already had the answer, but unsure if this was just another goodbye. They seemed to be pretty good at those lately.
