Hera Modern AU Moodboard
"The statue of Hera—extraordinarily huge—sits on a throne made of gold and ivory, a work of Polykleitos. She has a crown embossed with Graces and the Seasons and carries in one hand a pomegranate fruit and in the other a scepter. I must pass over the reason for the pomegranate, since the tale is protected by sacred rite. But people say that the cuckoo bird sitting on the scepter is Zeus: because he was in love with Hera when she was a maiden and turned himself into this bird which she hunted to have as a pet." —Pausanias 2.17.4
"(Ἄνθεια), the blooming, or the friend of flowers, a surname of Hera, under which she had a temple at Argos. Before this temple was the mound under which the women were buried who had come with Dionysus from the Aegean islands, and had fallen in a contest with the Argives and Perseus. (Paus. 2.22.1.)" —L.S
The two depictions listed above are unrelated, but I love Hera's fertility aspects and I wanted to make a drawing in honor of them. The headpiece is inspired by the flower women figurines found in her Foce Sele sanctuary.
Man why do all greek mythology artists draw Hera as angry or serious.
Where is Hera being happy eating cake or grinning while holding a massive fish she caught?
Or maybe Hera happy crying over baby Hebe having squishable cheeks?
Does she always have to be mogging everyone with her face card?
Can I get a doodle of Hera and Hebe?
