here’s my design of queen hera!

i tried to incorporate peacocks and cows into the design, particularly the feathers in her crown and the chryselephantine horns (meaning made of ivory and gold, and very expensive). the precious stones i put on her golden jewellery are lapis lazuli, sapphire, ruby, pearl and peridot :)

i probably won’t be drawing her again any time soon as her design is very complex 💔

According to Greek mythological tradition, Hera conceived Hephaestus in solitude as an act of rebellion to compete with Zeus after the birth of Athena. Seeing that the boy was not the "perfect" counterpart he expected, he threw him from the top of Olympus.

I wanted to capture this episode not as an act of cold evil, but as the breaking point of a mind immersed in pain. For me, Hera's reaction to seeing her child reflects the symptoms of severe postpartum stress combined with deep depression, where the disconnection from the environment and panic completely take over the mother before assimilating the reality of her actions.
