Brooklyn Brainery
Today I ventured into a world of light and dark. Shadows and light. Chiaroscuro if you will.
I picked up a piece of charcoal for the first time in about six years. SIX YEARS! It's crazy to me that I've left that smudgy little block still for so long.
I took the class through Brooklyn Brainery, for those who haven't heard of it it's a great community that teaches art, culinary, jewelry, etc. type classes for cheap. This class was under $30, included all materials, and was a 2.5 hour session of only 10 people. It was a casual and loose setting so I wasn't afraid to be messy.
Essentially we just tried to imitate the shadowing of a different Michelangelo sketches. The first set of sketches we did in 1 minutes, then 2 minutes, then 5, and finally an hour (really more like 45). The hour was probably the most difficult because you held yourself to a higher standard and yet the time still went so quickly.
It was also great to wander the Park Slope/North Flatbush area. So beautiful and way cleaner than Bushwick!
