It's Cacoethes || Isaac & Lydia
Isaac rounded a corner and nearly stopped head in his tracks. His heart skipped a beat. It was Lydia leaning her back against a locker with Aiden a foot away, probably whispering something in her ear that Isaac had no interest in hearing about but of course, Lydia being his best friend since middle school, she had to tell him anyways.
The worst part was that he knew that Lydia had feelings for him, just like he had for her but she didn't want to ruin the friendship. Aiden was just a distraction and they both knew it.
Lydia tried to say hello as he walked past but he didn't even look at her, he couldn't. It hurt him too much. Ever since they had the conversation Isaac just couldn't handle being around her. He wanted to try, because he didn't want to lose her as a friend but it was too much and they just started drifting apart.
Seeing them in the hall together, Aiden eyeing her, it was too much. Isaac broke. He snapped. He walked into the nearest empty classroom and sat down against a wall. He put his head in his hands and the thoughts took over.. He tried so hard to hold them back and angrily attempted to dismiss them but each thought was like a hydra. Ever time he got rid of one, two more took it's place. His breathing was shaky and so he tried to steady it, but each breath came out uneven.
He had liked her since the beginning. He never understood why she wanted to be his friend, he was just the loser that was abused by his father. Maybe that's it. His dad may be gone but he was still just a loser. And people like Lydia just didn't date losers.
Even when they were young, he could tell she was smart too, even though she tried to hide it sometimes. He even used to try and impress her by learning complicated or unusual words. It may have started in middle school but he kept it up in the hopes that someday it would work. It would usually be in attempt at a friendly tease, like once she was very worried over something and Isaac told her to stop being so inaniloquent other wise known as speaking foolishly or saying silly things. It of course made her laugh and put her at ease.
That was what Isaac did. He made her feel better. He just couldn't wrap his head around why Lydia wouldn't go out with him, no matter if she explained it once or a thousand times.
He looked up as the door to the classroom opened and saw the her, the very girl causing his troubles, enter to the room with concern on her face.
"I'm sorry," Isaac breathed, and looked at her before turning his gaze down and running his heads through his hair. "This is my fault. We'd still be as close as ever if I hadn't been so stupid. I never should have brought it up and I'm sorry."
