On The Hunt

Sir Thomas, the head of the royal guard had been in his position for a couple of years now, thanks to his father who retired. He did a hell of a job protecting the family and he’s stopped many poisoning and assassination attempts the last few months. He didn’t understand why someone would want to kill the family, although the lower classes did have something against them for their treatment. Pft, who cares about those peasants?
Tonight was different. He didn’t notice the dark shadow move atop the wall at unreal speed. So the familiar twang of an bow’s string slapping back into place followed by a cry of pain. Thomas saw his beloved king holding his shoulder, an arrow sticking out. He had to squint but he saw movement as the figure ran towards a tower where he was sure a guard laid unconscious-- or dead. He ordered people to get the family to safety and took off towards the stables to get his horse and intercept the assassin on the road somewhere.
